Ramadan 2012 begins 20. July All over the world Muslims have begun their holiestmonth of the year by fasting from dawn until dusk each day, broken each evening by large, communal meals.The start of Ramadan is earlier each year because it is calculated based on the sighting of the new moon,which begins the Muslim lunar month. Muslims use the time to reevaluate their lives through the scope of Islamic doctrine.Observant Muslims participate in fasting (sawm), one of the five pillars of their faith, this entire Lunar month , Eating, drinking, smoking and sexual activity is prohibited from dawn until sunset, when the fast isbroken with the evening meal called Iftar. Local customs define varying traditions, including differing types of food used to break the daily fast. The fast-breaking festival 19 August - 21 August 2012
