Strengthen relationships with community partners, filmmakers, and sponsors
Develop relationships with influencers

Audience:

Film lovers, San Francisco Culture consumers, Jews and their friends and 20s/30s ‘new jews’

Tactics:

Created a new Twitter handle@SFjewishfilm so that we could talk to people and strengthen relationships; retained our RSS feed Twitter @JewishFilmNews for 30th festival announcement, promotion, and ticket giveaways
To promote festival, experimenting with use of hashtags: #talkaboutit, #gangstersinmytree, etc.
Involving our Creative Directors, who will seed us Tweet content and authorize us to quote them as ‘OVERHEARD,’ so that we can Tweet meaningful content in addition to promo content in support of objective #2.
To identify influencers, used Socialmention, Twitalyzer impact report, Mailana, Mr. Tweet
Ask our co-presenters and media sponsors to promote screenings through ticket giveaways

Results:

Creating different handles increased our engagement and gave us the chance to express ourselves, but @jewishfilmnews has 3x the following as our engagement Twitter, SFJewishfilm and there may be some confusion as to the difference, even if we made that clear in print publications and on the profile.
Hashtags are not catching on yet, but it’s very, very early
In IDing influencers, we had luck by monitoring regularly and engaging. The additional tools like Twitalyzer, Mailana and Mr. Tweet helped us understand what we need to do to increase our influence and reach. The advice? Post more frequently and follow more people
DMs can work both for us and against us

If We Could Do This Over Again, What Would We Do?

Experiment more with live tweeting before the festival starts (but we’ll have an opportunity to use twitpics, and to tweet quotes at the fest itself and at the press conference).
Empower more staff and interns to Tweet by creating a policy document with Twitter do’s and dont’s

The Big ‘Ah Ha’:

Don’t bite off more than you can chew. BUT don’t be afraid to take big bites.
