Using Fonts <ul><li>Fonts and styles for extra impact </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Saying what you want to say in a document is only half task. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Making it look good improves the idea so that people will actually pick it up and read it. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Fonts can be apply to single characters, words, sentences, and paragraphs </li></ul></ul>

Making Fonts work for you <ul><li>Fonts are managed by Windows </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Fonts available in Ms Office application are also available in all the other applications like notepad, word pad etc. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Ms Word can be use to apply some unique formatting like double underline </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>All type of formatting is done using the formatting toolbar in Ms word </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>We have buttons and drop-down menus that are use to choose fonts, font size, effects (bold, italic, underline), and font color </li></ul></ul>

Accessing Font options <ul><li>Open the font dialog box by choosing Format than Font. </li></ul><ul><li>Font dialog box has three tabs. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Font </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Character Spacing </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Text Effects </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Font tab is use to select the attributes and than user can notice the changes in the preview when user apply desired styles, sizes, underlining, colors, and effects. </li></ul>

Paragraphs <ul><li>Other than formatting text or characters, a user must also know how to format lines and paragraphs of text. </li></ul><ul><li>Aligning paragraph text </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Word provides four options for alignment of paragraph text </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Left </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Right </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Center </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Full (Justify) </li></ul></ul></ul>
  10. 10. Paragraphs Alignment <ul><li>Left </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Left alignment is the most common type of alignment in which text lines up with the left side and have rough edges at the right side. It is easy to read. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Shortcut command (Ctrl + L) </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Right </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Right alignment is used in the headers and footers. It means that text lines up with the right side and have rough edges at the left side. It is hard to read. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Shortcut command (Ctrl + R) </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Center </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Center alignment is used for headings purpose and in this text is equally positioned between left and right side. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Shortcut command (Ctrl + E) </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Full (Justify) </li></ul><ul><ul><li>In this, the paragraph text is fully aligned and equally with the left and right sides. It is often used in documents with columns of text. (Ctrl + J) </li></ul></ul>

How paragraph text align <ul><li>To align the text, position the insertion point anywhere in the paragraph and click on one of the desired alignment button on the tool bar. </li></ul><ul><li>Select the complete paragraph with the keyboard keys or with mouse and than press any desired shortcut key for the alignment of text. Paragraphs Indenting <ul><li>We have different ways to set the paragraph indenting </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Using formatting toolbar </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Using ruler </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Using paragraph dialog box </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Using Formatting toolbar </li></ul><ul><ul><li>The easiest method to change indents of the paragraph text is the formatting toolbar </li></ul></ul><ul><li>How </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Click anywhere in the paragraph you want to indent or select multiple paragraphs then click on the decrease indent button in the formatting toolbar to reduce the indent or increase indent button to extend the indent. </li></ul></ul>
  13. 13. Paragraphs Indenting <ul><li>Using Ruler </li></ul><ul><ul><li>The ruler method to change indents of the paragraph text is the visual way. We have four indent markers on the ruler </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>First line indent </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Left indent </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Right indent </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Hanging indent </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><li>How </li></ul><ul><ul><li>To change the indents for the existing text, select the paragraph or paragraphs you want to indent and drag the indent marker on the ruler to the desired location. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>First line indent works the same as pressing the Tab button on the keyboard </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Left indent sets a paragraph off from the rest of the text by moving all the lines of the paragraph from left margin </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Right indent moves the text of the paragraph from the right margin. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Hanging indent hangs the remaining lines of the paragraph to the right of the first line. </li></ul></ul>

Paragraphs Indenting <ul><li>Using Paragraph dialog box </li></ul><ul><ul><li>The third way to set indents is by using paragraph dialog box. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>To access it, choose Format than paragraph or right click on the paragraph and choose paragraph from the shortcut menu. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>How </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Select the text you want to indent and open paragraph dialog box </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Click the indents and spacing tab if not selected already </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Click the arrows next to the left and right textboxes or enter numbers directly in the text boxes. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Click the special drop down arrow to select First Line or Hanging indent and than set value in By control. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Click OK to close the paragraph dialog box to see changes. </li></ul></ul>
