  3. 3. ORIGINSVolleyball’s historybegan in in 1895The sport was developed at the YMCA by William G. MorganIt was an alternative for the older men as an alternative tobasketball
  4. 4. THE GAME“Volleyball is a game for two teams, usually of six players, in which aball is hit by hand over a high net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other teams court”
  5. 5. OBJECTIVEOF THEGAME The idea is to be the firstteam to reach 25 in bothgames of the 2 set of the match.
  6. 6. WHERE YOU CANPLAYA typical Volleyball court is just 18 meters (59 feet) long and 9meters (29.5 feet) wideCourts can be gym floors, sand, grass and many other surfaces
  7. 7. All players must stay in the same rotation as whenthey entered the court until the ball is in play.On serve receive, once the ball is up you are free to move wherever. When you gain the serve back, the team moves clockwise and there is a new server. ROTATION
  8. 8. RULES AND POINTSThere are many rules in volleyball, butthe main ones include1. The team is only allowed 3 touches to get the ball back over2. You cannot “carry” the ball3. The serve must start outside the court4. You cannot touch the net5. The same player can only hit the ball once in a rowIf the ball lands out on opponentscourt, the team take more than threehits, carries the ball, or violates anyother rules, it is the oppositions point.
  9. 9. ATTIRE Basics such as a top, shorts and running shoes are all that are required to playMove advanced players with have court shoes, ankle braces, and knee pads.

In a serve the player holds the ball in onehand and follows through to hit it with theother hand in an attempt to get it into theopponents court.A spike is usually the third hit with an openhand. The object is to hit the ball down withyour hand so that it lands on theopponents court and cannot be defended.Blocking refers to the actions taken byplayers standing at the net to stop theopponents spike
 A bump pass is the attempt by the teamto receive an attack. A bump lands it thefore arm.
  11. 11. POSITIONSThere area 6 players on the court in the game of volleyball. (2 lines of 3players)1. Outside hitters: spike the ball2. 2. Middle blockers: best at blocking the net.3. Setters: pass it off to the middle or outside for a spike

INJURY Although volleyball is not necessarily a physical or rough sport, injuries occur all the time the ball can be hit very hard straight into you, there is a lot of falling and diving, and hitting the ball incorrectly are all things that can all lead to injury. sprained ankles, broken noses and broken hands are all common in the game of volleyball Ankle braces, mouth guards for some positions, knee pads and practice of moves are all precautions players take to avoid injury
