Hello. Today I ll be trying three snacks to
show you; Koala s March, Uiro, and
Takenoko no Sato. You can find all of these
snacks in Japan. I m really excited. Let s get
started.
This is Koala s March. It comes in a really
cute package. I think it s supposed to look
like the Koala s tree a little bit and it opens
at the top. The regular flavors are
chocolate and strawberry. And, as you can
see, they also sometimes have seasonal
flavors. On the box, you can also see that
there are different Koala characters.
Ok, now it s time to try them. This is what
they look like. They re little cookies with
filling inside. The pictures are really clear
and easy to see. They re softer than I
expected. The cookie is very thin. This one
is strawberry. There is actually a lot of filling
inside. It s very creamy. It has that usual
strawberry candy flavor. It s not really like a
real strawberry, but it s good. It s sweet,
but not too sweet. I like the soft crunch
mixed with the creamy filling. Those are
good.
Next is Uiro. I ve been told that this is a
Nagoya specialty. To be honest, it doesn t
look so appealing when you first see it. It s
kind of brownish purple and seems like a
kind of gelatin of some sort. I don t care for
slimy textures and I was a little afraid. It
usually comes in a square or rectangular
shape. When you buy it, it s usually
wrapped in plastic or in a box.
After trying Uiro, I have to say it s actually
quite good…not slimy at all. It has a nice
texture, slightly grainy, and it kind of melts
in your mouth. It s made mostly with azuki
beans which are in a lot of Japanese
deserts. They re quite sweet…it s a nice
naturally sweet flavor. Because it s so
sweet, a small amount is enough, but Uiro is
also quite good.

Last is Takenoko no Sato. These are my
favorite. They look like little bamboo shoots.
You don t open the side of the box, you
open the top. Inside is a bag that looks like
a village where you might
go to hunt for bamboo
shoots. You open the bag
in the middle and inside
are little cookies in the
This is that the cookies look like when you
open up the bag. They re heavier than I
expected. It s a very dense cookie with a
thick layer of dark chocolate on top.
They re dipped, rather than filled. It s really
easy to see the takenoko pattern on the
chocolate. They re very crunchy, very
buttery. I think it s a kind of shortbread
cookie. There s also a strong dark
chocolate flavor. Yummy.
Till next time!
