  • 8. What is needed for a team to succeed ? Ans : It starts with F… 
  • 9. FOLLOWERSHIP If Leadership is “the relationship between those who choose to lead and those to follow”, then it is as important for a team to have followers as it is for the team to have a leader.
  • 10. What is it? An act of blind faith… An act of unquestioning faith… OR Set of behaviours & characteristics?
  • 11. What are those? Effective followers know what’s expected of them; they make sure that their role/tasks have been clearly communicated to them and that they are clear about their responsibilities.
  • 12. What are those? Effective followers seek to establish and maintain lines of two-way communication to reduce the risk of unclear messages.
  • 13. What are those? Effective followers take initiatives, keeping their leader informed.
  • 14. What are those? Effective followers challenge flawed plans. This is one of the most valuable contributions that can be made by an effective follower. It is also one of the most difficult, since there is a risk of appearing negative, or distrustful of the leader’s judgement.
  • 15. What are those? Effective followers provide accurate feedback to their leader and their colleagues. This means providing both good & bad news in a timely and honest way.
  • 16. What are those? Effective followers support the leader’s efforts – all leaders need support & encouragement. This also means acting as advocates among their peer group and attempting to quash rumours.
  • 17. Expected from you. Provision by your leader What you can expect from your leader Clear about role & responsibilities. Unambiguous goals & objectives Open to requests for clarification or reasoning Maintain two-way communication. Regular, frequent & relevant messages Ask questions & listen to answers. Challenge flawed plans. Opportunities & environments where challenges can take place. Welcome challenges, willing to re-write plans. Provide accurate feedback Opportunities for frequent feedback. Welcome feedback, act on it and wouldn’t take it personally. Support the leader’s efforts Place for team members to meet Reward loyalty.
