  • 1. Rose Group: Cut Flowers & Foliage Type of Plant: Dicot Leaf Arrangement: Alternate Identification : Dark green, glossy, trifoliate leaves. Leaflets finely serrate, sometimes with red margin. Back of petiole is often spined. Stem is green with colored prickles, not thorns. Flower is usually multipetalled in any color. Swelled calyx with five leafy sepals. Rosa species
  • 2. How to pick healthy Roses : Long, straight stems which can support the flower. Since the flower doesn’t last, it should be a bud. Sepals held out away from the flower is the best stage. The foliage will tell you how the flower has been treated. How to keep them fresh : Recut stems, under water if possible. Keept them cool and out of the sunlight. Change water and use a floral preservative. How long will they usually last? One week, perhaps longer, out of the cooler. Where are they grown? Mostly Colombia, California, and the Netherlands.
