Setting Standards on Day 1
 I think it is important for the teacher to set a short
simple list of expectations at the very beginning of
every year.
 Students should be involved in creating these
expectations, so that they better understand what is
being asked of them.
 First, I have the students discuss what they think
should be expected of them as a student.
 I show the students how each of their
contributions fall into one of the three following
categories.
 I implement the following expectations (in French,
of course):
 Be respectful.
 Be responsible.
 Be a good scholar.

 I open each expectation up for clarification and
discussion, and then wait for approval from my
students.
 This usually controls behavior problems from this
point forward.
