  • THE DIGESTIVE SYTEM
    By Justin Lorenzo 8-17
  • Why is it important?
    • Nutrients in the food gives our cells energy
    • Need nutrients to operate View slide
    • Food has to go through the digestive system. Transforms to energy View slide
    • We need the energy to be alive
  • The Mouth:
    • Beginning of digestive system
    • Breaks food down in smaller pieces
    • Easier to digest
  • The Anus:
    • The last part of the system
    • Provide internal and external
    • Lets all waste release out of the body.
  • The Esophagus:
    • Tube between mouth and stomach
    • Uses muscles to push food down
    • Into the stomach
  • The Rectum:
    • 8-inch chamber that connects colon to the anus
    • Receives the waste from the colon.
  • The Liver :
    • Largest internal organ that
    • Performs storing
    • Gets rid of all the wastes and also toxins (poisons).
  • The Stomach :
    • A hollow organ
    • holds food while being mixed with enzymes
    • Continues breaking down food into a smaller form
  • Large Intestine :
    • Highly specialized organ
    • Responsible for processing waste
    • So emptying the bowels is easy and convenient
