Justin Charles: Project One Proposal - Presentation Transcript

    1. Project One Proposal: The Online Publication of My Dreams Justin Charles
    2. Introduction
    3. Initially, I was a bit worried to have to come up with something so soon.
    4. Then I remembered the idea I’d been kicking around in my head for what seems like forever. Bear with me.
    5. Interests
    6. • art, design, film, photography, TV • basketball, soccer, cycling • literature, media theory & criticism • politics, cultural studies • music (particularly hip hop & electronic)
    7. That’s a broad set of interests but the big one, the Internet, is where they converge a bit. Online I can: • research • be delighted by • analyze • be engrossed in • critique • support • play with • curate
    8. Concept
    9. Through a mixture of text, images, audio, and video, my aim is to create the website I would imagine as having everything I want as a reader, covering all those interests I previously mentioned in a manner displaying refinement of taste and quality with a lack of pretentiousness.
    10. Technology
    11. Having worked with it before, WordPress seems the best option: • free • well documented • extendable with plug-ins • a great way to easily create, organize, and publish content • I can design and code the templates
    12. Audience
    13. My ideal reader is me (or someone very much like me). Like Sven said in lecture, if I like something then there must be somebody else who does too.
    14. On the social web (sites like Twitter, Tumblr, Ffffound, Flickr, Facebook, and the like) I’ve found a surprising number of people who happen to be into the broad but connected set of interests I have.* People like this are the ones I’ll be talking to. *Demographically, these people are generally young (18-35)creative types living in urban environments.
    15. In conclusion, I know this idea may be a bit big for its britches but hopefully you can help me reign it in a bit. Thank you.
