  • 1. THE 2 TYPES OF LANTERN FESTIVAL OSKY LANTERN(YI PENG) FESTIVAL OLOY or LOI KRATHONGFESTIVAL
  • 2. SKY LANTERn FESTIVAL -THE SKY LANTERN FESTIVAL OF THAILAND IS HELD NOT JUST IN THIS COUNTRY BUT ALSO IN CHINA,TAIWAN AND OTHER NEIGHBORING COUNTIES
  • 3. Each release of a sky lantern is a petition ,small prayer, or good wishes of the person who release the lantern -this event is held on the full moon of 12th month in the traditional Thai lunar calendar or in western calendar in November
  • 4. THE CHIANG MAI has been the scene of mass sky lantern release. Some of the meaning on the sky lantern are: O it sends bad lucks and misfortune away into the air O People say a short prayer for launching the lantern ,sometimes they will also write their address in the lantern. Anyone who later finds the lantern then claim money from the sender .in this way the good fortune is shared. O It considered as good luck. Thais believes this sky lantern are symbols of problem and worries floating away. O It is an act of veneration to Pra Ged Kaew Ju La
  • 5. - IT ALSO CELEBRATED IN NOVEMBER - LOY/LOI- Is literally means “to float” -KRATHONG Is refers to the “lotusshaped receptacle” which can float on the water.
  • 6. Krathong O was originally made of banana leaves or the layer of the trunk of a banana tree or a spider lily plant. O It is decorated with elaboratelyfolded banana leaves, flowers ,candles ,and incense sticks. O They float the krathong in a river , canal or on a pond lake
  • 7. Loi Krathong O Is said to have begun in 13th century when a young queen made a small boat adorned with candles and sent it down the river. O It is a ritual honoring for PHRA MAE KONG KA, the goddess of water. O The construction of colorful boats was a way of not only giving thanks for the abundance of water
  • 8. O But also a way to seek forgiveness for overuse and pollution. O Today , LOY KRATONG is a way for people to make a wish and look forward the future.
