Jesus’ Ministry <ul><li>Began at age 30 </li></ul><ul><li>Traveled town to town </li></ul><ul><li>Preached, taught, supposedly performed miracles </li></ul><ul><li>Taught: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Monotheism </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Principals of Ten Commandments </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Personal relationship with God </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>God’s love </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>God would end wickedness in the world </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Eternal kingdom existed for people who repent their sins </li></ul></ul>

Jesus Gains Attention <ul><li>Most knowledge of Jesus comes from the Gospels </li></ul><ul><li>Gospels thought to be written by some of Jesus’ 12 apostles (pupils) </li></ul><ul><li>Began attracting more and more attention </li></ul><ul><li>People drawn to his message: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Ignore wealth </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Meekness </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Love others </li></ul></ul>

Jesus’ Death <ul><li>29 A.D. - Greeted as Messiah </li></ul><ul><li>Romans and Jews denied this possibility </li></ul><ul><li>Accused by Roman governor, Pontius Pilate, of defying authority of Rome </li></ul><ul><li>Arrested and sentenced to die by crucifixion </li></ul><ul><li>According to Gospels, 3 days after death, Jesus’ body was missing from his tomb, appeared to his followers, then ascended to heaven </li></ul><ul><ul><li>People convinced he was the “Messiah” </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Give name Jesus Christ - “Christ” = savior </li></ul></ul>
    7. 8. Christianity Spreads <ul><li>Followers of Jesus spread his message </li></ul><ul><li>Most followers = Jews </li></ul><ul><li>Began forming own religion based on Jesus’ ideas </li></ul><ul><li>Grew slowly throughout Roman Empire </li></ul>
