The AXA Millésimes Scholarship for Institute Masters of Wine students offers recipients exceptional hands-on experience at the AXA Millésimes properties in Bordeaux, Burgundy, Languedoc, the Douro Valley and Tokaj.

I‘m Here!
…at Château Pichon-Longueville. This is the starting point of my journey as one of the very lucky AXA Millésimes 2010 scholars!

My fellow four scholars and I met for an exquisite dinner prepared for us at our very comfortable accommodations directly at Château Pichon-Longueville. We had a chance to try a wine from each of the AXA Millésimes properties with our various courses.

Jean-René Matignon, chief winemaker at Château Pichon-Longueville for 25 years, included us in his work in the vineyard and the cellar during the 2010 harvest. Amazing was the perfection in the selection of grapes in the vineyard and again twice in the cave – manual and with an optical laser.

Christian Seely led us through a vertical tasting of Château Pichon-Longueville, 10 vintages from 2000 to 2009. We were left with a lasting impression of the classic and elegant style of the Château …. and with purple teeth!

Serge Ley, chief oenologist at Château Petit-Village taught us the art of assemblage. With all components of the 2009 vintage and knowledge of their respective volumes at hand, we were given the assignment of creating our own blend which should also fulfil economic expectations for the Château.

With the chief oenologist at Château Suduirant, Pierre Montégut, I harvested, pressed my own Sauternes! Spectacular was the pairing of Suduirant with Szechwan cuisine from Chef Shan.

László Mészáros, managing director of Disznókö, welcomed us to participate in the harvest of aszú grapes in Tokaj. In addition to this he offered us the opportunity to explore the region extensively and do comparative tastings of single variety, single vineyard, single picking barrel samples of aszú while discussing vinification techniques and blending options.

Cédric Loiseau, technical director of Mas Belles Eaux, and the legendary Daniel Llose, exhibited the promising present and future potential of the Languedoc estate.
