This document was meant to serve as a current status for Mayor Daley and his staff, so that he knew what was up ("MONTHLY MAYORAL INFRASTRUCTURE PRESENTATION"). Certainly much may have changed in the ensuing months. It would be cool if people could provide their own updates on what's going on at these locations.

Designer: Patrick Engineering Design Contract Amount: $1,178,358 Contractor: Walsh Construction Co. Construction Contract Amount: $8,944,630 PM (Design): Kenneth Lee PM (Construction): R. David Herrold Construction Notice To Proceed: 09/24/07 Substantial Completion: 07/12/08 Status Summary – Block installation nearing completion. Progress – Current schedule completion was 06/20/08, but delay due to FAA changes, weather (rain) and utility locations will impact the date (possible 6 weeks). – FAA changes received. Attention Areas – Coordinating with FAA on design issues pertaining to FAA lights and Navaids. – Pricing FAA requested changes. – Discussion of funding for those changes. – Repair of EMAS areas destroyed by aircraft involvement on 7/18/08. 7 Runway 4R/22L Arrestor Bed System MMIP-080108

    • Brown Line Capacity Expansion Project Facilities Project Update Construction Station Updates Chicago (Completion: September 2008) Work continues on historic station house, electrical room, elevators and platform railings. Installation of station house roof and curtain wall ongoing. New sidewalks on the south side of Chicago Ave and two-way traffic on Franklin opened on July 18, 2008. Temporary stairs on Franklin to be removed by August 1, 2008. Diversey (Station Opening: August 4, 2008) Contractor continues with painting, signage installation, and station detail work. New station to open for service on August 4, 2008. Damen (Completion: December 2008) Detailing of new platform structural steel, historic stationhouse rehabilitation, and new station house build out continues. Installation of platform decking, guardrails, tactile edging, and electrical work ongoing. Elevator installation has begun. Irving Park (Completion: January 2009) Detailing steel, bent foundations and platform conduit work continues. Stationhouse and elevator tower masonry and platform guardrail work has begun.     • Project Update: Loop Signals Power & Way Gray/ Dyra Construction Loop Signals Schedule Status & Project Update as of 8/1/08 Total Project Budget $103.8M Contract Value $67.1M Earned to Date $8.1M Percent Earned to Date 12.1% Percent Time Used to Date 56.6% Project Update The Loop track renewal work is currently scheduled to resume the weekend of September 5-7, 2008. Work will include the replacement of 1,100 track feet from Randolph/Wabash to 250 feet South of Madison. DBEC is installing train stops, signal platforms, and local signal cable in the Loop. DBEC is installing conduit in the LaSalle Street Trolley Tunnel. DBEC continued with switch machine replacement in the Loop. DBEC is performing prep work to prepare for the cutover of GRS1 to GRS2 audio circuits. Tower 18 work is currently scheduled for Fall 2009.     • Maxwell Street Market Permit Center – 800 S Des Plaines This is an existing building on the new market property. This 2100 SF building will be completely renovated and registered LEED with a goal of silver. Current status: In construction. 75% Project construction: started June -08 and completion September-26-08. 28th Ward Yard - 4211 W. Ferdinand . The project consists of Design and construct an addition to the existing equipment storage facility. Also an interior pre-fabricated office structure for the Streets and Sanitation equipment supervisors and truck drivers. Current status: In punch, move in scheduled for Aug.-08-08. Project construction: started September-07 and completion is August-6-08.
    • Comfort Station Upgrades Photo of boom arm type system completed Asbestos, lead paint and floor tile abated. at 1685 N. Throop. New concrete floor, interior plumbing & heating and new tile roof being installed. Current status: In construction. Project construction: started March-24 -08 and completion August-29-08. Photo of new windows installed. Installation of filtered exhaust extraction systems for 8 Fleet Maintenance Facilities. The project consists of individual exhaust extraction systems for various repair areas in Fleet facilities. Current status: In construction. Project construction: started March-17-08 and completion September-19-08.
    • Photo of Frit glass at night. Streets & Sanitation Building Renovation 2352 South Ashland Office Building LEED-CI renovation. Current status: North Garage – permit for interior construction of one office, egress correction and masonry repairs is in process. Merlo Library Façade, 644 W. Belmont Highlight original art-masonry facade and increase identity as a library by replacing bronze mirrored glass with clear, fritted glazing and new landscaping. Existing entry will be passively cooled in summer and provide passive solar heating in winter. Current status: Test panels are installed. Frit glass panels are being fabricated for installation in 3rd Quarter 2008.
    • 1869 Pershing Building Renovation Renovate 6 firs (Approx 600,000 SF) of Space for City warehouse. When completed it will house over 14 City depts. and consolidate 7 leases. Current status: Phase II construction 80%.Drawings for next Phase completed. Project construction: to finish end of 2011. Photo of completed office area. New 7th & 10th Ward Yards 9160 S. Harbor Ave Current ward office being demolished for IDOT, US 41project. This new facility will be LEED silver. Current status: Waiting for Procurement award to Pacific Const..
    • Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities: Renovation of space includes new carpeting, furniture, ceilings, lighting and new offices. Painting of new and existing offices. Current status: In Schematic Design. Project construction: to start September-15- 08. Department of Planning Improvement Renovation of space includes new carpeting, furniture, ceilings, HVAC, lighting and new offices. Current status: Phase 3 framing complete drywall started. Project construction: started July-14-07 and end December-1-08.
    • Chicago Cultural Center Dome The project was to restore the art glass in the Preston Bradley Hall Dome and install a new skylight above. Current status: Project Completed. Project construction: started December-17-07 ended July-1-08. Project selected to receive 2008 “Chicago Landmark Award for Preservation Excellence” Photos show the restored Tiffany dome with cornice leaf painting, natural lighting from new skylight, LED cornice lighting & restored decorative lighting.
    • Install new Canopy for the Mixing Station at Millennium Park. Current status: Awaiting Funding Project construction: to start October- 13-08 and end November-26-08. Rehabilitation and Replacement of the Exterior Wall System at Area 2 Police Facility. 727 East 111th Street.     • Project Scope and Highlights This project will make the station fully accessible to people with disabilities, and entails many new improvements and amenities including two new elevators to the inbound and outbound platforms connected to the 11th Street Bridge. The existing 12th Street Metra Station will remain open to passengers throughout construction. Most work will occur during non-rush hour periods. The existing station and bridge will be removed once the new station is completed. All platform foundation, decking, and steel work for Phase 3 work is complete.
