SESSION 3: FREE TO BELIEVE, YOUR BELIEF WILL SET YOU FREE Document Transcript

  • 1. OTE2013 is your 10-Month non-formal adult education program which equips individuals in dealing with real life issues. The self-help literacy program that supports GlobalFusion’s Better Person Better Business Principle. Change Your Beliefs, Change Your ResulTs byJetTiamsim LESSON GUIDE: The impact of Empowering Beliefs vs. Disempowering Beliefs. Main focus of this module is to show practical steps on how to increase positive self-image as a foundation in replacing self- limiting habits to empowering ones. It will show the correlation between positive thoughts to daily habits and create a follow-through program to actually apply these principles. At the end of this module, you will: A. Understand the impact of EMPOWERING BELIEFS B. Be given practical steps in developing positive habits C. Learn Creative Visualization for follow-through in accomplishing personal goals. How Baby Elephants Are Trained Elephants in captivity are trained, at an early age, not to roam. One leg of a baby elephant is tied with a rope to a wooden post planted in the ground. The rope confines the baby elephant to an area determined by the length of the rope. Initially the baby elephant tries to break free from the rope, but the rope is too strong. The baby elephant “learns” that it can’t break the rope. When the elephant grows up and is strong, it could easily break the same rope. But because it “learned” that it couldn’t break the rope when it was young, the adult elephant believes that it still can’t break the rope, so it doesn’t even try! Humans operate in a similar way. We learned something about ourselves at an early age and still believe it as an adult. Even though it may not be true, we operate as if it is. Fortunately, humans are born with the ability to make conscious choices - an important step in changing how you perceive yourself.
  • 2. byJetTiamsimChangeYourBeliefs,ChangeYourResulTs Question is: What do you really BELIEVE about yourself? “Your belief determines your action and your action determines your results, but first you have to believe.” - Mark Victor Hansen • What is your daily self-talk? • What adjectives or words could I use to describe myself that make me feel good? • Look for a list of positive beliefs on the internet. Do any of these ways of thinking actually resonate with you and make sense on an experiential level? How can you adjust them to be true for you? • How can I create empowering beliefs by creating my own quotes, declarations or life philosophies that will support my goals? Focusing solely on the geometric shape, try to imagine what it will be like to close your eyes and see the shape. It might not appear as a clear image at first, but that’s okay. The purpose of this exercise is to build your visualization circuits, much like a muscle. You start off small, then eventually you will be able to visualize images of greater complexity. Just begin by staring at the image for 30 seconds, then close your eyes, and picture it in your mind’s eye for 30 seconds. Keep doing this until you get a strong image impression. Although you may not clearly see the image, you will get into a state of deep concentration. This state of concentration will help you develop complex visual imagery later on. It’s a good way to get the feeling for creating mental movies, or other altered states of consciousness. To make the image appear vivid, I imagine the shape becoming energized. Creating a shape from nothing would require effort, but we can picture the shape appearing from a traced outline a bit more naturally. Begin to trace the outline of your shape with a spark of colored light. I like to imagine the spark of light going around the edge of the shape, causing it to fill in. Let the colored spark trace the edges of your shape repeatedly. This will help make the exercise a bit more engaging. Creative Visualization Show steps on how to do visualization. Incorporate the positive self-beliefs to positive habits via a mental imagery. Identify the habits that will increase a positive self-image. Lay down principles on self-belief and having a positive self-image VISUALIZATION ACTIVITY: This simple exercise will help you develop the ability to see clearmentalimages.Withabitof practice creating mental images will become second nature. We think in images all the time, but we are not always aware of it. This exercise will train your mind to focus on the images you want to create, rather than the ones that come automatically. To begin, choose a simple geometric shape, with a basic color.Youcanchoosetoimagine a red square, blue circle, green rectangle or whatever suits you. The image of a red circle holds personal significance to me, so I use that shape as a focus for my exercise. To get the most out of the visualization you can draw the colored shape on a piece of paper for reference. It’s good to have a clear picture to refresh the image in your memory.
  • 3. byCKAgbayani Once you are done with the basic visualization exercise, you might want to try creating a short mental movie. In this mental movie you can imagine yourself reaching a personal goal. This time choose 1 POSITIVE SELF-BELIEF/ SELF-IMAGE that you would like to achieve and feel for the rest of the week. Say, what are your upcoming plans? Are you meeting prospects for the week? Here’s an example of a personal goal to achieve and declare: I AM CONFIDENT AND I LOOK GREAT! RELAX YOUR MIND FOR A MOMENT. Step 1: Choose a photo of a person you admire most whom you want to emulate in looking confident. Step 2: Look at that photo for the next 30 seconds then close your eyes and visualize that person on your mind. Slowly replace his/her photo with your image. Step 3: Put colors on a scenario where you see yourself standing in front of a huge crowd. Imagine the clothes you’re wearing and how confidently you stand with pride. You are wearing your favorite dress, your favorite suit. You are wearing your favorite jewelry, your favorite watch. You are ready to share your heart to all these people who are eager to meet you and listen to you. Feel emotions of nervousness, excitement and confidence! You are now confidently smiling in front of a crowd!!! You can start doing this for the next 6 days of the week. Is there anyone around you that has the success which you desire? Try to spend some time with them. Seeing how they conduct themselves day-to-day is a great start to understanding success. If that’s not possible, then try to build a mental image of how that person acts on a daily basis. Remember it’s not “practice makes perfect”, but “perfect practice makes perfect”. Don’t be afraid to make changes to your goal, even if you have to take a few steps back; it will be worth it in the long run. Shares. CLOSING: Declare and believe: SAYING WHAT YOU MEAN, MEANING WHAT YOU SAY  LESSON GUIDE: When leaders talk, people listen. As a leader, how you communicate your vision, intention and purpose can inspire your organization to achieve. In communicating what’s in your mind and your heart, you have to say what you mean. And when you are accountable about the words you let out, you mean what you say. This module enables the participants learn how to communicate effectively as leaders. At the end of the module, you will: 1. Differentiate “saying what you mean” and “meaning what you say” 2. Express who they want to be and what they want to do and have this 2013 in public A. ACTIVITY 1: WHEN YOU SAID IT, IT’S DONE
  • 4. byCKAgbayaniSAYINGWHATYOUMEAN,MEANINGWHATYOUSAY  SAYING WHAT YOU MEAN, MEANING WHAT YOU SAY Leaders communicate effectively when what they say and what they mean become congruent. Saying what you mean happens when your thoughts are expressed by your words. Be careful what you think and say as they become self- fulfilling prophecies. Meaning what you say is all about walking your talk, that when you say something from the heart it’s done. When you say what you mean, you say the truth. When you mean what you say through your actions and results, you earn the trust of your followers and peers. “I Gotta Believe” Ooh! Ooh! Talk about it You know life, has its ups and downs (it)Can Turn your pretty face, to an ugly frown Seems that when I face one thing, another one comes Clouding up my vision, but I can feel the sun I believe that I can do this; I know that I can win Just as long as I have his love within [Chorus:] I believe that I can make it, I can make it through the night I believe that I can walk on, with my head held high I believe that I am special in every way But in order to have my victory-I gotta believe-Ooh yeah! I have to see myself at the finish line I have to visualize that everything will fall in line I have to visualize the land while riding through the storm I have to trust in my father and open up my heart I know that I can do this I know that I can win Just as long as I have his love within [Chorus:] I believe....Ohh oohh I believe I can walk on.... with my head held high I believe that I am special yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah But in order to have my victory [Bridge:] Ohh! Heartbreak (I can handle it) And heart pain (I can handle it) Being let down (I can handle it) No one’s around (I can handle it) I believe I can (I can handle it) I receive I can (I can handle it) And now I’m walking right into my victory I believe that I can I believe I’ll walk on walk on walk on walk on I am special yes I am Oh oh oho ho And in order to have victory (Everybody help me say) Oh I believe..... Feel the lyrics of the song. DECLARATION OF FREEDOM Think about who you want to be and what you want to have this 2013 and when you feel it, rush to the stage and declare it boldly by following this format in 1 minute: “I declare that in 2013, I am ____, I am doing ____ and I already have _______.
  • 5. byMikeYulo INTERPRETING FAILURE & DEALING WITH LIFE’S DEFEAT LESSON GUIDE: This module focuses on the value and the meaning we connect with failure and defeat and it’s necessity to attain success. Everyone wants to be successful, but not everyone wants to fail, when you can only be successful when you have failed countless times. No one can ever realize the real meaning of victory without experiencing so many defeats. At the end of the module, you will: A. Understand and realize the value and necessity of failure. B. Embrace failure and welcome defeat in your lives, to strengthen you, empower you and not the other way around. YOUR ABILITY AND YOUR CONFIDENCE, THUS EACH OBSTACLE IS A COMRADE- IN-ARMS FORCING YOU TO BECOME BETTER… OR QUIT. AN OPPORTUNITY TO MOVE FORWARD, TURN AWAY, AVOID, AND YOU THROW YOUR FUTURE AWAY. WHEN WE SAY NECESSARY, IT’S SOMETHING WE DON’T ACTUALLY LIKE, BUT IT’S SOMETHING WE “NEED” AND “MUST” GO THROUGH OR HAVE IN ORDER TO GET WHAT WE WANT. LIKE WHAT MUHAMMAD ALI SAID: MOST OF THE TIME FAILURE CRIPPLES US BECAUSE WE DO NOT CLEARLY SEE IT’S RELATIONSHIP WITH SUCCESs. DUE TO THE TIME FRAME, FAILURE AND SUCCESS OFTEN DOES NOT HAPPEN IN ONE MOMENT, MOST OF THE TIME FAILURE HAPPENS IN SEPARATE MOMENTS IN OUR LIVES. DIFFERENT DAYS, DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, SO MOST CANNOT ACTUALLY SEE IT’S CONNECTION WITH SUCCESS AT “THOSE MOMENTS.” BUT THROUGH A SIMPLE VIDEO, A SHORT VIDEO, 5MINS, WE SHALL SEE THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN FAILURE AND SUCCESS, HOW MANY FAILURES IS MUCH NEEDED FOR ONE MOMENT OF SUCCESS. AND THAT IS A VIDEO OF A PERSON CHOPPING DOWN A TREE. EACH STRIKE’S PURPOSE IS TO FALL THE TREE, THEN EACH STRIKE IS A FAILURE TO BRING DOWN THE TREE UNTIL THAT ONE BLOW WHERE THE TREE GOES DOWN! ONE OF OUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE IN LIFE IS KNOWING HOW TO INTERPRET FAILURES AND HOW TO DEAL WITH LIFE’S DEFEATS. IT IS SAID THAT NOTHING IN LIFE HOLDS NO MEANING EXCEPT THE MEANING YOU GIVE IT. SO WHAT IS FAILURE FOR YOU? GOOD? MANY FACE EACH OBSTACLE IN THEIR PATH WITH FEAR AND DOUBT AND CONSIDER THEM AS ENEMIES WHEN,INTRUTH,THESEOBSTACLES ARE FRIENDS AND HELPERS. THEY ARE NECESSARY FOR SUCCESS, BECAUSE IN ALL CAREERS OF IMPORTANCE, VICTORY COMES ONLY AFTER MANY STRUGGLES AND COUNTLESS DEFEATS. YET EACH STRUGGLE, EACH DEFEAT SHARPENS YOUR SKILLS AND STRENGTHS, YOUR COURAGE AND YOUR ENDURANCE. FAILURE AND SUCCESS? GUIDED BY THE ANCIENT LAW OF AVERAGES…

NO PAIN, NO GAIN. THERE’S PAIN IN DISCIPLINE, BUT THERE IS ALSO A GREATER PAIN IN REGRET. “yOU CANNOT JUST CHANGE FROM THE MIND. BUT THE MIND AND THE HEART, AND YOUR ACTIONS. TO CHANGE, THEY MUST ALL BE CONNECTED. when you change, change for the better. SEE YOU ON THE NEXT O.T.E.!
