Ka boom! slideshow Presentation Transcript

  • 1.
  • 2. What is KaBOOM?
A Nationwide non profit dedicated to saving play by creating play spaces for every child in America
Strives to equip communities and community leaders with resources, inspiration and support
  • 3. The Problem: “Play Deficit”
Too few play spaces being built
Those that exist often in disrepair
Fear surrounding lawsuits and safety trumps common sense
    Therefore…
    Sterile, uninspired play environments
Recess is being eliminated from many schools
    Kids are overscheduled
In their free time, many choose to stay indoors, lulled by television, computers and video games
  • 4. The decline of play is closely linked to:
    Childhood obesity
Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity, anxiety disorders and depression
    Violence and other behavioral problems
Stunted social, cognitive, and creative development
Lack of green spaces in cities and suburbs
    Fragmented communities
    Failing schools
  • 5. Solutions
Constructing innovative, kid-inspired playspaces, using community-build model
Improves well-being of children and their neighborhoods
Sharing the knowledge and tools needed for anyone to find, improve, and/or build playgrounds on their own
Building a broad movement driven by research, analysis, policy, and community engagement
