Throughout the Bible there are dozens of images that are used to communicate about God and his people. I would say that most church planters have read their bibles and wondered why the church they were in doesn’t look more like the images in the bible.Ron and Lori were drawn to the image of love: God is love, God so loved the world, love your neighbors as yourself. It’s not hard to find the image of Agape in scripture.
Andrea and I are drawn to the image of the Body of Christ. But these images are all different ways to describe the same thing. Agape needs to be the Body of Christ, our church needs to show Agape love. We learn from each other as each of us seeks God’s picture of the church. One of the places where the picture of the Body shows up is in 1 Corinthians 12:12-31Our vision is for a church where everyone is valued, where everyone is connected and loved. As members of the body we live in community. We love each other. We respect each other. The world is desperately hungry for this type of community. People want to share themselves, but too often they don’t have anyone who will listen – so they tell their bartender or their hair stylist or even a salesman, anyone who has to listen. As the body we listen to each other and support each other and love each other.
Ephesians 2:10 says that you have a purpose. God made you, he crafted you like a work of art, to fulfill a certain purpose. He has a ministry for every one of us. We are a saved people, not to be safe, but to work. God isn’t done with this world and he isn’t done with us. What has God called you to do? What ministry has God created you to do?You can find out what your ministry is—if you are a part of the body. You can be equipped by the leaders if you are part of the body. Together we can all do the work the God has made us to do.
At Agape Home Communities are the place where we experience the Body of Christ. In home communities we support each other, we encourage each other, we strengthen each other. In home communities we encourage and empower leaders to find their gifts of leadership. In home communities the leaders equip people for the ministry to which God has called them. People learn how they fit into the Body of Christ and the place that God has for them in the body.
