    2. 2. Design and format tools <ul><li>Book Design Wizard 2.0 for Microsoft ® Word Only for PC; $37; also sells design templates for prose and poetry </li></ul>
    3. 3. Format your pages <ul><li>Go to MS Word. Open your file “ chpt001_text ” </li></ul><ul><li>Go to VIEW  Header and Footer </li></ul><ul><li>Cursor in Header. Click. Enter your desired header text </li></ul><ul><li>What font and size of type? </li></ul><ul><li>Left, right, center? (Tip: “center” is easiest) </li></ul><ul><li>Whatever your choice, write it down in your design stylebook guide. </li></ul>
    4. 4. Format your pages <ul><li>Go to VIEW  Header and Footer </li></ul><ul><li>Header&Footer menu bar. Drag up to large menu bar </li></ul><ul><li>Third icon from right. Click. Note cursor position </li></ul><ul><li>Menu bar: “Insert Auto Text” Click triangle. Select “PAGE” </li></ul><ul><li>Double click on page number. Format as desired. Centered? Em dashes? Bold? </li></ul><ul><li>Add entry to your design stylebook </li></ul>

Format your pages <ul><li>Now we pour in pages of text </li></ul><ul><li>Click to the left of ¶ symbol </li></ul><ul><li>Menu  Open File  ” TWAIN_On_The…” </li></ul><ul><li>Go to Menu..>Window. Should see two files: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Your text document </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>The “Twain” file </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Menu: EDIT  Select All [CTRL+A] </li></ul><ul><li>Copy [CTRL/Option+C] </li></ul><ul><li>Window  Your file </li></ul><ul><li>NB: cursor still to left of ¶ symbol </li></ul>

Format your pages <ul><li>MenuBar  Edit  PasteSpecial </li></ul><ul><li>Select “Unformatted Text”  OK </li></ul><ul><li>File  PageSet-up  PageSize </li></ul><ul><li>Select “Custom Size”  6x9 </li></ul><ul><li>Save File </li></ul><ul><li>Go to virgin template page  Page Setup  Margins </li></ul><ul><li>Note ALL margin measurements </li></ul>
    7. 7. Format your pages <ul><li>Back to Your File. Make margin changes if different from template. </li></ul><ul><li>Save your file </li></ul>
    8. 8. Format your pages <ul><li>View file. Note ¶ symbols. Turn off. </li></ul><ul><li>Select All [CTRL+A] </li></ul><ul><li>Go to Menu Bar font field. Select font of your choice. Save file. </li></ul><ul><li>Look at first page. Make changes? </li></ul><ul><li>Note in design stylebook changes </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Space down on first page? </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Tabs? Or not? </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Create em dashes? </li></ul></ul>
    9. 9. Save often <ul><li>SAVE your file as “ TWAIN_yourfiletest_Chpt001 ” </li></ul>

Image file types <ul><li>Should I use CMYK, RGB or grayscale images? </li></ul><ul><li>Depending on which type of binding you choose for your book, there are different ways to optimize your document for print. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>For all black and white books (except comic size) , the source document and images should be in grayscale mode. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>For full color books , the source document and/or images should be in the original colorspace. If it was created in RGB, DO NOT convert to CMYK and vice versa. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>If your full color book contains black and white images, set each black and white image to grayscale. </li></ul></ul></ul>
