  • Overview
    • Sensors can be added to active RFID tags to give a low cost low power network to make intelligent decisions for business solutions
    • The Technology?
    Tags are available in a variety of sizes frequencies and capabilities. 433 MHz, 2.45 GHz and WiFi WiFi tags offer opportunities to utilize existing networks but have limitations with battery life, location accuracy and cost so I will concentrate on active 2.45 GHz tags
    • What are some of the applications…?
  • High ROI Applications
    • Intelligent temperature management:
      • Log temperature at predefined intervals
      • Alarm above and below set points
      • Alarm at lower temperatures that are exceeded for a longer period of time. Effectively giving an alarm for total damage of monitored product
    • Additional parameters can be written to the active tags:
      • - Humidity or gas composition in a large area can be measured and that data can be integrated into the tags to give greater depth of environmental information
      • - Tags use a microprocessor based intelligence to make decisions for the product
      • - Applications include fruit and vegetable management, vaccine through a supply chain and blood bag monitoring
  • Infra Red sensors
    • Room level location for assets/patients
    • Tag to tag Contact, e.g. patient infectious diseases or chemical incompatibility
    • Identification of people/vehicle
