### House Project

1. 1. Your Cultural House Project Geometry Ms. Suess

Goal: Create a house with their own cultural style. <ul><li>Students will: </li></ul><ul><li>Create a floor plan </li></ul><ul><li>Choose a scale </li></ul><ul><li>Create front view </li></ul><ul><li>Figure out sq. footage for each room and the entire house. </li></ul><ul><li>Make a 3d model of the first floor. </li></ul><ul><li>Write a one page essay on their cultural home heritage. </li></ul><ul><li>Present it all in class. </li></ul>
3. 3. Scale, 1 box = ? feet <ul><li>You will decide on a scale for your house. The total square footage of the entire house should range between 2000-3000 square feet. </li></ul>
4. 4. Scale is VERY Important! <ul><li>An architect's scale is a specialized ruler. It is used in making or measuring from reduced scale drawings , such as blueprints and floor plans . It is marked with a range of calibrated scales ( ratios ). </li></ul><ul><li>A ratio is an expression which compares quantities relative to each other. The most common examples involve two quantities, but in theory any number of quantities can be compared. Mathematically they are represented by separating each quantity with a colon, for example the ratio 2:3, which is read as the ratio &quot;two to three&quot;. </li></ul>

Where to start <ul><li>Cultural research and write a one page essay on how culture effects: </li></ul><ul><li>The house structure </li></ul><ul><li>Cultural elements of design </li></ul><ul><li>Importance of family </li></ul><ul><li>Decorating and colors </li></ul><ul><li>Decide how you will incorporate your culture into your design </li></ul>

10. 10. Look at walls, windows, doors, stairs, bathrooms, kitchen, etc..

12. 12. 3D Model with foam board <ul><li>Things to remember: </li></ul><ul><li>Only put walls where there ARE walls </li></ul><ul><li>Doors, Garage Doors shouldn’t have walls, but rather openings </li></ul><ul><li>You are only putting only the first floor on your foam board </li></ul><ul><li>Measure twice, cut once. </li></ul><ul><li>DON’T WASTE THE MATERIALS </li></ul>
13. 13. This will be a 2-3 week project, use your time WISELY! You will have all of the following completed: <ul><li>A one page essay on how your culture effects your house. </li></ul><ul><li>A front color view. </li></ul><ul><li>A floor plan of each floor including room measurement and total square footage of each floor and total house, and the scale you chose. </li></ul><ul><li>A 3-D model of the first floor. </li></ul><ul><li>Present all in class. </li></ul>
