High impact instruction week 4

 1. 1. High Impact Instructional Moves
Week 4
2. 2. Learning Objective:

I6-Uses technology and digital resources appropriately to enhance student learning

I-6 Observable EvidenceEffective Teacher Behaviors
Teacher effectively uses technology to engage students and ensure all students‘ access to information.
When technology or digital media are used, they are integrated and complementary and enhance student learning. Teacher recognizes strengths and limitations of technology according to tasks and purposes.
Teacher provides technology-rich learning environment that enhances learning experiences and enables students to learn and apply content.
3. 3. I-6 Effective examples of technology use would include, but are not limited to:
Using LCD projectors and computers to display directions, objectives, notes, etc.
Using document cameras or similar technology to make small items visually accessible to whole class.
Using clickers, or other electronic feedback systems, to check for understanding, reinforcement, and/or assessment.
Using Promethean boards or equivalents as key component of lessons that includes students‘ use of board.
Maintaining Web page (e.g., Wiki) for calendar updates, deadlines, etc. as well as downloadable items, handouts, supplemental links, etc.
Using the Internet to learn about world cultures and specifically cultures of students in classroom and applying that learning to instruction.
4. 4. I-6 Observable EvidenceEffective Student Behaviors
Students have hands-on access to technology (e.g., document cameras, Smart Board).
Teacher and students are actively engaged in learning and using technology tools and resources (e.g., computers, interactive whiteboards, digital projects, document cameras) and support each other in this work.
Students use technology thoughtfully to enhance communication, acquire information efficiently, and integrate online and offline learning.
Students demonstrate familiarity with tools and can decide when and how to use tools.
Teacher and students use digital media resources (e.g., graphics, videos, audio, animations) to enhance their teaching and learning projects; ample opportunities are provided to share and display their work.
Students use technology resources to write for broader audiences (e.g., publish stories via Web; use computer programs/tools to create media).
Students regularly use technology resources to engage in collaborative projects with classmates.
5. 5. Resources
IPOD and Pandora:
IPOD’s are great for creating playlists for specific activities, workouts, dance unit etc. If your department does not have an IPOD you can also use Pandora- great free internet radio with few commercials. Pandora is available on smart phones or computers.
Power points are a great way to guide instruction. They are interesting and give visual learners a better chance at grasping the information. Just ask your school Tech rep for a projector.
see the example power points on the moodle menu
6. 6. Websites can be very useful in keeping student up to date with assignments. They also save the teacher time because students can go right to the website for practice worksheets and study materials.
Check out my website for ideas: http://msrosesspewebsite.weebly.com/
Teacher facebook page OR Edmodo:
I recommend using edmodo because it is made specifically for educational purposes. Students sign-up and create a profile just like facebook. Just go to http://www.edmodo.com/home
and sign-up to get started. You can send messages and/or assignments to students. Also available as an app on smart phones so students will have easy access to their account!
7. 7. PE Specific Technology
Pedometer
Heart rate monitor
Phone apps for (BMI, Tabata, stop watch)
Video analysis
Exercise technique
Sports skill technique
Swimming technique
(use www.schooltube.comor www.Edmodo.com to assign as homework)
8. 8. Questions to Ponder:
What technology do you currently use in your classroom?
What did you like or what would you add to the example resources?
IPOD, pandora, power point, website, & Edmodo
How do you plan to integrate more technology into your classes?
9. 9. Putting it all Together
Create a website, set-up an edmodo account, post a video to school tube, or create a power point for one of your lessons.
Join the discussion:
Follow the discussion board link below and post your answer to this weeks discussion question.

Respond to at least 2 other posts
