If you can send me a private message and give me an email address I would be happy to get it to you. I got this from a free powerpoint themes site a couple of years ago, but I photoshopped the picture to give it a bit of soft glow

Love this photo! It’s a great motif for anything related to the web ... think I will rip it off for my own presentations. ;->

  11. You try to play a file that has an .avi extension or a file that you know is an mpeg2 and neither will play. Why?
  12. Codecs and Wrappers
    • A Codec is the method with which a file is encoded
      • DIVX
      • XVID
      • Cinepak
      • Intel Indeo
      • Main Concept
  13. A Wrapper Defines the File Type
    • .avi .mpeg .mp4
      • DIVX and XVID are .avi filetypes
      • Main Concept is an .mpeg filetype
    • This can cause many problems for network usage
      • The user device must have the codec installed
        • Even then, problems can arise if the file was encoded with non-standard bit rates
  14. Solution I
    • Use standard codecs and bit rates
      • Uncompressed or DV .avi
        • Mainly used as high quality container for captured video that is to be output for DVD or Film.
      • DIVX
        • Now supported by many hardware manufactures
      • Mpeg1 can be good for downloading – decent quality
      • Mpeg2 for output as DVD
      • Quicktime, Windows Media, Realmedia, Flash FLV for streaming
      • Mp4 for downloading and portable devices
  15. Solution II
    • Transcoding for Streaming or playing
      • Running the original video (e.g. XVID) through another encoder (e.g. mpeg1) “live”
  16. UPnP Servers and Clients
  17. UPnP
    • Universal Plug and Play
    • Developed by Intel as a standard architecture for delivering media (Audio, Photos, Video)
    • Client Server Based
  18. Servers & Clients
    • Software Servers
      • Twonkyvision Media Server
      • TVersity Media Server
      • Windows Media Connect
      • Nero
    • Software Clients
      • On2Share
      • Cyberlink
  19. UPnP Hardware Clients
    • D-Link DSM Series
    • Netgear
    • Phillips Streamium
    • Buffalo Link Theater
  20. TVersity Media Server
    • Runs as Windows Service
    • Flash/HTML Interface
    • Can transcode on-the-fly
    • Ability to OUTPUT your media as RSS feeds
    • Ability to read and play from RSS feeds and URLs
