  • IBM System x and IBM BladeCenter servers are designed for virtualization by incorporating IBM mainframe availability and reliability into industry-standard servers for an innovative, affordable platform for mission-critical applications. When your clients virtualize there most critical application, they will ask themselves whether they can depend on their IT infrastructure. Only IBM System x and BladeCenter offer the resiliency, functionality, experience, ease-of-use, and security across the platform. We have success story like Scotmid, which replaced their HP infrastructure with enterprise System x servers and IBM System Storage when they virtualized their data center. Like their Head of IT, Scott Kerr, said “…there was a level of input and support from IBM that (they) weren’t getting from other vendors.” This is a great opportunity as businesses look to virtualize to steal clients from our competitors.
  • Key points: Compared to the prior gen 5600 the latest E5-2600 offers more of what IT demands from their HW Up to two additional cores and up to 8MB more last level cache More memory – 6 additional DIMMs/ 2S system and support for up to 32GB DIMMs increasing memory capacity from 288GB to 768GB Intel Integrated I/O to reduce latency 30%, offer up to 80 PCIe lanes per system and increase bandwidth by up to 2X with PCIe 3.0 support Faster connections throughout the system with support for DDR3 1600, 8.0 GT/s QPI and support for the PCIe3 specification to increase bandwidth by up to 2X Story: The 1 st reason we can offer so much performance improvement is that we’ve made physical improvements to the processor. As you can see highlighted in red on the diagram, we’ve added more capabilities to the Intel Xeon processor E5-2600 product family. We’ve added in up to two additional cores for more raw computational performance, plus we added in ~2/3rds more cache and an additional memory channel with higher than ever per DIMM memory capacities so that more data can be stored local to the processor reducing wasted clock cycles waiting for data to arrive from the storage system. This goal to reduce latency in getting data to the processor is reflected in our increased integration with both PCI Express being built directly into base silicon components. We’ve also supported higher bandwidth throughout the platform with additional QPI speed, support for DDR3-1600 memory, and the 1 st ever enterprise support for PCIe 3.0. The Intel Xeon processor E5-2600 product families offers more of everything that restricts performance – more cores, more cache, more memory, more integration with more bandwidth across the platform to get your data where it needs to be faster than ever before.

  • System x Smarter Computing Predictive Failure Analysis & Light Path Diagnostics Predictive Failure Analysis (PFA) : Key components in the IBM System x range of servers that provides the ability to monitor the health of server components and generate an alert up to 48 hours before failure actually occurs. This provides the ability to either hot-swap the component (if applicable) or schedule downtime at low-impact times for the component to be changed or refreshed. IBM implements PFA on more server components than any other vendor.
