CHRISTIAN BAPTISM Baptism - What it is not? Baptism - A command of the Lord Baptism - What it symbolizes? Baptism - What the Bible teaches? Baptism - Baptisms in the Bible Baptism - What it express? Baptism - What your experience? Baptism - What your concept?
Baptism - What your decision today?
CHRISTIAN BAPTISM An ordinance to the church Commanded by the Lord Jesus Authority given by the Lord Practiced by the apostles (Acts.2: 41; Acts: 10: 48; Acts:19: 5)
Continued by the believers
CHRISTIAN BAPTISM Not any deed to replace Circumcision Not continuation of any Old Testament rituals (Gal.2: 16; 3: 11) Not any deed for Salvation Not any deed for Purification
Not “the Baptismal regeneration” (Baptism Symbolizes burial and resurrection; not the new birth . Rom.6: 3 )
CHRISTIAN BAPTISM BAPTISM - Command of the Lord Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. ( Authority?- Example- Mat. 21: 24 ) Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: ( Command )
Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. ( Assurance )
CHRISTIAN BAPTISM BAPTISM- What it symbolizes? An act of Obedience (Jn.14:15; Rom.6: 1-2) An act of identification to his burial and resurrection (Rom.6: 4; Col.2: 12) An act of allegiance (Joined to Christ) (Rom.6: 3; Gal.3: 27; Example. 1.Cor.10: 1-2) An act of putting on Christ (Gal.3: 27) (Shows to whom belong- Num.15: 37-41)
An act of appeal toward God for a good conscience
CHRISTIAN BAPTISM BAPTISM - What it symbolizes? Romans 6: 3-4 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life . Colossians 2:12 Buried with him in baptism , wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
( An act of identification to his death-burial and resurrection )
CHRISTIAN BAPTISM BAPTISM - What Jesus meant? “Baptism to be baptized with” ( Luke 12: 50 ) Luke 12: 50 But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished! Not of the literal Baptism. ( Jesus was baptized: Mat.3: 16 ) Then if spiritual what it means? For what he was going to Jerusalem? ( Mat.16:21 )
(Was He not pointing to his death, burial and resurrection, to be taken place of him in Jerusalem?)
CHRISTIAN BAPTISM BAPTISM - What it symbolizes ? Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; (1.Cor.10: 1-2) For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ .(Gal.3: 27 )
(An Act of full commit to the Lord- shows the stand with those who have committed to walk with Christ )
CHRISTIAN BAPTISM BAPTISM - What it means ? One Lord, one faith, one baptism (Eph.4: 5) (All believers are baptized with the baptism of the Holy Spirit 1.Cor.12: 13 ) Baptism is “Act of immersing” What it means “ One Baptism”? Is it the Baptism of the Holy Spirit or the Water Baptism ?
(No one a believer with out the baptism of the Holy Spirit; but Baptism in water the visible expression to the world)
CHRISTIAN BAPTISM BAPTISM- What it express ? Appeal of a good conscience toward God (1.Pet.3: 21) When once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: (1.Pet.3: 20-21)
(Answer to a good conscience toward God- The willingness to obey His command, appeals the good conscience to the Lord )
CHRISTIAN BAPTISM BAPTISM-What Bible Teaches? (Identification to the burial and resurrection- Believer is: Dead to the Sin (Rom.6:2; 10) Dead to the Law (Gal.2:19; Rom.7:4) Dead to the World (Gal.6:14; Col.3: 3)
(Person “Believed” or “Born again” should be baptized- Shows “I am dead and now buried with him”)
CHRISTIAN BAPTISM BAPTISM - What Bible teaches? (Continues) Person Ref: Who baptized. 3000 in Jerusalem Acts.2:41 Apostles Men and woman Samaria Acts.8:12;13 Philip Ethiopean Eunuch Acts.8: 38 Philip Saul (Apo. CHRISTIAN BAPTISM BAPTISM-What Bible teaches ? (Conti…) Joined to Christ (Gal.3; 27; 1.Cor.10: 2) By crossing the Red sea, Israel fully joined to Moses. (Truly delivered from Pharaoh, but in the areas of Egypt until crossed the red sea) (To whom you belong? To the world or for Christ?) Putting on Christ (Gal.3: 27; Num.15: 37-41) (The fringes reminded the Jew not to seek after their own heart; so also the baptism)
(Apparel shows with whom you stands -1.Pet.3: 21)
CHRISTIAN BAPTISM BAPTISM- What Bible teaches? (Conti…) (Read- Jn.3: 23; Acts.8: 36-39 ) (Acts.2: 41; 8: 36; 9: 18; 10: 47; 16: 15; 16: 33) When can be baptized? Never delayed (Acts.8: 12-13; 8: 38; 10: 48; 16: 15, 16: 33; 19: 5 etc) (Do spiritual coldness delays to obey in baptism?)
Eunuch said: Here is water: what doth hinder me to baptized? (Acts.8: 36)
CHRISTIAN BAPTISM BAPTISM-In whose name to be baptized Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: In the triune name (Only one time reffered) Mat.28: 19 In the name of the Lord. Acts.10: 48 (shows the difference) Apostles never gave undue importance Place: They came unto a certain water ( Acts. 8: 36 ) Persons : He commanded them to be baptized. ( Acts.10: 48 ) Position: Were ye baptized in the name of Paul? ( 1.Cor.1: 13 )
(Gladly received his words were baptized- Acts.2: 42 )
CHRISTIAN BAPTISM BAPTISM-Can infants be baptized? Was infants also in the baptism as “household”? Read Acts.16: 15; 32-24; 1Cor16: 40 ) Can an infant do the following? Get comforted (Acts.16: 40) Devoted to the service (1.Cor.16: 15) If not sure, infants were not baptized
(Example- who fought in war?- 2.Sam.3: 1 )
CHRISTIAN BAPTISM BAPTISMS – In the Bible (A brief study) ( Sign of repentance - Mat.2: 11; Acts.19: 4) Baptism Jesus received (Not of repentance) (2.Cor.5:21; 1.Pet.2:21; Yet -Mat.3:15; Jn.1:31) Baptism of the Holy Spirit (No man can give) (To make as one body - Mat.3: 11; 1.Cor.12:13) Baptism of fire (Not for any believer) (Mat.3: 12; Lk.3: 17; Mk.9: 48-49)
Water Baptism (Believer’s baptism)
CHRISTIAN BAPTISM BAPTISM- Different from all previous baptisms. No man putteth a piece of new cloth unto an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it up taketh from the garment, and the rent is made worse. Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved. (Mat.9: 16-17) An ordinance given to the Church Different from all previous baptisms.
Not a renewed or modified form of any other Baptisms.
CHRISTIAN BAPTISM BAPTISM- What your concept? As Counsel of God, can you reject? (Luke.7: 30) Baptism for all or only new convert? Is there old and new Christian? (John.1: 12) Baptism for infants or Adult? To infants, Adult or for who “believed”? (Acts.2: 41) Baptism by sprinkling or immersion?
( Do what Bible teaches than vain traditions - Mat.15: 3 )
CHRISTIAN BAPTISM BAPTISM – WATER BAPTISM (CHRISTIAN BAPTISM) BAPTISM – WATER BAPTISM (CHRISTIAN BAPTISM) BAPTISM – Water baptism (BELIEVERS BAPTISM) Lord given command after the resurrection (Mat.28: 18-20) Began on the day of Pentecost (Acts.2: 41) Practiced by the Apostles (Acts.10: 48) Continued by the believers (Acts.8: 37) Different from previous baptisms (Acts.19: 5) A Whole mark of Christian faith (Acts.2: 41-42) Counsel of the Lord; cannot be rejected (Luke 7: 30)
(Fully a new ordinance to the church)
CHRISTIAN BAPTISM BAPTISM- Thru the history Baptism for infants or for those “believed”? Is there any evidence for infant baptism? ( Not a single example for infant Baptism -Search the Scriptures) When started the infant baptism? When the sprinkling began to practice? ( Search thru church history- Never seen in early church) Can the sprinkling symbolize burial ?
Are you convinced of the teaching on baptism?
CHRISTIAN BAPTISM What your baptism experience? c. Any Baptism before coming to faith ( Example : Act.19: 3; “unto John’s baptism” ) If any of above; do you need to take Baptism? (Surely you must- example: Acts.19: 4-5 ) Do you give importance to Baptism?
(Mat.28: 18-20; Acts.2: 41-42; Acts.8: 36)
CHRISTIAN BAPTISM Walk in the newness of life (Rom.6: 4) Obedience to righteousness (Rom.6:16) Dead to sin; free from sin to become servants to righteousness (Rom.6: 18) Dead to sin; alive unto God (Rom.6:11) Yield members to holiness (Rom.6:19) Servants to God (Rom.6: 22)
( Fruit unto holiness; End everlasting life - Rom.6: 22 )
