2012 item-guide 2012 item-guide Document Transcript

  • Page | 1 Annual Auction Item Guide™ “What Sold Swell in 2012!” 100+ Item Ideas for Your Next Fundraising Auction Sweetheart, get ready for a flood of compliments because you’re going to be the star at your next procurement meeting. You’ve likely received this Guide because you signed up for the Red Apple Auctions’ e-zine, “Benefit Auction Ideas™.” It’s published twice a month and includes easy suggestions to boost revenues, improve audience participation, and manage auction details. Watch your email for the next issue. But for fresh acquisition ideas, this annual Auction Item Guide is the best place to start. To compile it, I check sale records and research my 2012 auction catalogs to bring you some of the most popular, creative and top-selling auction items sold last year. You’ll see a broad range of values, from “free” to $16,000. Regardless of value, each item had a skyrocket sale, selling for more than the perceived donor’s value or its listed price. Each raised significant money for the charity. As you browse, keep in mind that the point isn’t to get the identical item, but to model each item and make it your own. Be inspired. This Guide is organized into two sections. • The first page lists snippets of items sold. • The other pages have robust descriptions. The text allows you to see how each charity showcased the item. You can review the language they used to tempt the masses into bidding. Red Apple Auctions Co. | www.RedAppleAuctions.com | #1-888-474-0838 | info@RedAppleAuctions.com © 2013 Red Apple Auctions Co. • Page | 2 To make the most of your time, follow these three steps: 1. Grab a highlighter. Highlight any item which sounds fun to you. If you like it, chances are that someone else in your community will, too. 2. Grab a pen. If you think of someone or something while reading an item, write notes in the margins. Even short phrases like, “Talk to Barb” or “Joe’s boat” will be useful later when you need to jog your memory in an auction procurement meeting. 3. Share this document with the rest of your auction procurement team and get them to do Steps 1 & 2 above. First, it allows your team to compare notes. If several of you like “Item X,” make an effort to secure a similar donation as it resonates with your crowd. Second, for those of you new to auctions, the act of reviewing this document and comparing your notes can be part of the agenda for your first procurement meeting. You’re already on your way to a great benefit auction. And remember this time-saving tip for better auction results: Work to acquire items that offer a good rate of return, like these. When items sell close to or over value, you need fewer items to hit your financial goal. That means less work for you. ! I had fun re-living each auction as I reviewed the catalogs. I hope the excitement of each sale carries through to you. Dive in, Superstar, Sherry Truhlar, CMP, BAS, CAI Benefit Auctioneer / Auction Mentor P.S. This Guide is perfect for launching creative juices, but sometimes more help is needed, like maybe a class teaching you how to procure big ticket items, or individualized help in getting your committee to ask for items. To cover other options, schedule a complimentary consultation with me at https://my.timedriver.com/82ZBS. Together we’ll figure out the best fit for your nonprofit or school. Two tickets to Christian Siriano’s Spring 2013 Fashion Show and After Party. A case of perfection: For many years after Robert Parker popularized the 100-point scale for evaluating wine, no wine he tasted merited the perfection implicit in earning the full 100-points. The suspense mounted with the knowledge that he’d eventually bestow the coveted number on a bottle, which bottle would finally be deemed worthy of that elusive sobriquet? The anticipation was finally dispelled when Parker, who gained international fame for his vociferous support of the 1982 Bordeaux vintage, announced that to his palate, perfection was embodied in the 1982 Chateau Mouton Rothschild. Since then, he’s awarded his perfect score nearly 200 times, “less than 1/10th of 1% of the wines I taste,” he says. Of course, the Parker imprimatur guarantees a wine will sell out in a flash. Moreover, quite a few of the 100-point wines have been awarded in retrospective tastings of vintages long past and no longer available. The following mixed case … is simple a case of perfection! 1955 Ch La Mission Haut Brion; 1976 Cote Rotie La Mouline, Guigal; 1978 Hermitage La Chapelle, Jaboulet; 1982 Ch Latour; 1989 Ch Clinet; 1989 Ch Haut Brion; 1992 Maya; 1994 Harlan; 1998 Hommage a Jacques Perrin, Ch de Beaucastel; 2002 Colgin Tychson Hill Cabernet Sauvignon; 2003 Chave Hermitage; 2008 Kapscandy State Lane Vineyard.
