Zirconium

  1. 1. 40Circonio –ZirconiumMass: 91,224 u[Kr] 5s2 4d2  Melting point: 2128 KBoiling point: 4682 KDensity: 6,52 g/cm-3Discovery: Martin Heinrich Klaproth, 1789Zirconium is a lustrous, greyish-white, soft, ductile and malleablemetal which is solid at room temperature, though it becomes hard andbrittle at lower purities. In powder form, zirconium is highly flammable, but the solid form is far less prone to ignition. Zirconium is highlyresistant to corrosion by alkalis, acids, salt water and other agents. However, it will dissolve in hydrochloric and sulfuric acid, especiallywhen fluorine is present. Alloys with zinc become magnetic below 35 K.
