Neodymium is not found naturally inmetallic form or unmixed with other lanthanides, and it is usuallyrefined for general use. Although neodymium is classed as a "rareearth", it is a fairly common element. The color of neodymiumcompounds—due to the Nd3+ion—is often a reddish-purple but itchanges with the type of lighting.
