  1. Slide 1: Name of your Case Study Dear contributor, Name of Contributor(s) Affiliation(s) Please use this template to record a case of designing learning technology for and/or with rural communities. Date The example provided is entirely fictional! 3. Slide 3: For this slide and the following slides keep the title and substitute Situation the example text with descriptions from your case study (delete this)  A tagline for your project or work  e.g. The mkaroo radio project is delivering agricultural information to farmers in mkaroo (see: http:….)  Describe the learner community and the context they live and learn in  e.g. The mkaroo community consists of 30 farmers and their families living in a semi arid area. They grow crops for subsistence. The road is 30 km away etc…  Describe your technological setup / available infrastructure  e.g. There is no electricity or phone signal. Learning is delivered via wind-up radios… T plate adapted fr h em om ttp://w w w .slidesh e.n ish -ca ar et/y /star se-stu -tem dy plate
  4. Slide 4: Task  Describe what you are trying to achieve, e.g. What are the learning objectives / the desired outcomes for all stakeholders.  e.g. We wanted the farmers to learn more efficient methods and to experiment with new crops. Other stakeholders want to... Etc… T plate adapted fr h em om ttp://w w w .slidesh e.n ish -ca ar et/y /star se-stu -tem dy plate
  5. Slide 5: Actions  How did you try to address the issue? How did you involve learners and other stakeholders in the process?  e.g. We developed local language radio programmes describing organic methods and new crops suited to local conditions. We interviewed local farmers about the radio programmes and whether these had affected their practice, etc… T plate adapted fr h em om ttp://w w w .slidesh e.n ish -ca ar et/y /star se-stu -tem dy plate
  6. Slide 6: Results  What were the outcomes of the actions you took?  e.g. Several farmers (4/10) reported having listened to some of the programmes. Many reported that the shows were broadcast during planting season in the daytime and they were too busy. We found no evidence of experimentation with new methods or crops… T plate adapted fr h em om ttp://w w w .slidesh e.n ish -ca ar et/y /star se-stu -tem dy plate
  7. Slide 7: Observations  Lessons you've learnt and conclusions you’ve drawn  What would you do again, what wouldn’t you do again? What would you do differently? Why?  e.g. While the programmes were apparently accessible to local farmers they did not seem to trust the information provided and they had no access to seeds for new crops suggested. In future work we would involve farmers at an early stage in the planning and we would plan for seeds and extension workers to be available in the community. We would also provide wind-up MP3 radio recorders so that farmers could record programmes and listen at times that suited them….
