Multiple intelligences

  2. 2.  Howard Gardner    (1943 - ) Professor at Harvard University Conducted years of research on regular and gifted students as well as people with brain damage.
  3. 3.  People possess eight different intelligences.         Linguistic-verbal (one of the most common) Logical-mathematical (one of the most common) Spatial-visual Bodily-kinesthetic Musical Interpersonal Intrapersonal Naturalistic
  4. 4.  Teachers   They can give homework/assignme nts that require reading from a textbook or novel. They can use word processing technology and word game programs to integrate technology.  Students   Linguistic learners tend to enjoy reading, so they tend to read books for enjoyment or write stories. Students can use the internet to read about current events.
  5. 5.  Teachers   To cater to the logical learners without using technology, the teacher could give worksheets as an assignment in class or as homework. To do the same thing while using technology, teachers can require students to use programs and games that require logical thinking such as virtual chess or a math program.  Students   Students who think logically tend to create generalizations and test hypotheses about real life situations. They also can play games such as Minesweeper or Mahjong on their computers, and some even have computer programs that require logical thinking without the student even knowing it.
  6. 6.  Teachers Use the whole classroom to help teach the students (each section of the room represents something else).  There are also geography games online that teachers can require students to play in order to learn spatially.   Students Learn their way around a room or city at a much faster rate because they know where things are with much more ease than most.  They can use programs such as Inspiration© to make a visual map of their thoughts in order to think more clearly. 
  7. 7.  Teachers   Require the children to move around the room while they learn instead of just sitting still all day. Require the children to record how many minutes they worked out on the classroom webpage.  Students   These students tend to learn better through physical contact and are very active. They can use interactive technology such as robotic dogs that must be cared for.
  8. 8.  Teachers   Use songs in class to help the children learn information (order of the planets, the 50 states). Play soft music through speakers during activities that require the children to be calm.  Students   These students tend to play instruments and have an affinity for music. They can use technology that allows them to create their own music (guitar/drum apps for phones).
  9. 9.  Teachers   Give group assignments so that the students must work together. Have the students use webcams to chat with other students to create a project.  Students   Tend to be very social both in and outside of class. They learn better when interacting with people. Tend to use social media and video chat with friends frequently
  10. 10.  Teachers Give solo assignments in order for the students to work alone and think things through by themselves.  Assign the students to use technology with a self tutorial that allows the students to work at their own pace.   Students These students tend to work alone on most assignments and are very self aware.  These students usually play games that are single-player and use technology at their own pace. 
  11. 11.  Teachers   Focus on identifying people and plants as well as cause and effect. Use technology such as weather trackers to show the effects of rain on an area.  Students.   These students tend to enjoy being outside and observing nature. They can use technology that demonstrates cause and effect in order to help them learn better.
  12. 12.    I really like this theory because I can apply it to almost anyone pretty easily. I will use this theory in my class to help every student learn. I won’t focus on just the logical learners. Instead, I’ll focus on all eight different types of learners.
