    • What Is Mechanical Engineering?
      Mechanical Engineering is the branch of engineering dealing with machinery.
      More specifically, these engineers have duties in researching, developing, designing, manufacturing, testing, planning and designing tools, engines, machines, and other mechanically functioning equipment.
    • What They Do
      • They oversee installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of all types of mechanical equipment; such as combustion engines, robots used in manufacturing, to refrigerators.
      • They provide hands-on skills and use many computer programs to help produce necessary prototypes and to help create manufacturing processes, test fixtures, and documentation. Also they prepare and present status reviews.
    • Work Environment
      The environment will be partly what you make it. A degree in Mechanical Engineering is quite broad, so you’ll be able to work on planes in Florida, Cars in Colorado, or elevators in California. You have many options to where you would prefer to work and to what you would prefer to specialize
      in. There will be a large amount of
      time in an office, and going to
      meetings, but you will also have a
      big amount of time actually working and overseeing the project in person.
    • Demand
      The demand for engineers of all types is usually high. There is a good success rate for a job right out of college with a degree of engineering, especially mechanical. Also, since this degree is quite broad, Mechanical Engineers are needed in rural and urban areas.
    • Salary
      It isn’t all about money, but sadly money is a large part of life. A degree in Engineering will have you starting directly out of college with anywhere from $20-30 an hour. About $45,000 per year. As you gain experience however, staying with engineering for long enough could have you on your way to making $100,000 to even $200,000 per year.
    • Education
      Two schools with great Engineering are RIT and Clarkson University. These schools are very different but have very similar courses.
      Engineering is overall a tough course. You’ll find yourself spending a lot of time with heavy math and science courses.
      On the other advantageous
      side, you will almost always be guaranteed a job. Unemployment is low for engineers. Also with experience your salary will also be constantly increasing.
    • Why Choose Mechanical
      Mechanical Engineering is a great major. If your interested in anything with an engine, electricity, or how something works, you’ll be perfect for a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
      You make a good deal of money as an engineer, and you will almost always have a steady job for your entire life.
