He was born in Baltimore andraised there as an orphan. He first played for the Boston Red Sox but waslater traded to the New York Yankees. He hit 714 home runs and became abaseball legend. He was named to the Baseball Hall of Fame. The last teamhe played for was the Boston Braves. He died in 1948. Many say he wasthe greatest player of his day.
