    • Your centre for:
    • Imagination
    • Information
    • Learning
    • And in 2012, International Year of Reading ...
    • Champions Read!
  • 3. Code of Library Behaviour The library is a sharing facility for teaching and learning.
    • Respect yourself and the rights, feelings and safety of others.
    • Respect the right of others to work and relax in the library.
    • Complete your work in the library to the best of your ability.
    • Follow instructions and requests of teachers and library staff.
    • Look after library equipment, furniture and resources.
    • Be polite and courteous.
      • Talk quietly.
      • Move safely.
    • Keep the library and its resources clean and tidy.
      • Eat & drink outside only.
      • Place used books on the returns trolley.
      • Leave chairs & tables clean & tidy.
    • Return borrowed items as quickly as possible so that they are available for others.
    • Get passes or Planner notes to come from class to the library.
  • 4. Just read!
    • Research, all around the world, has found that …
    • “ High school students who read VOLUNTARILY and REGULARLY get better results on school and national tests than students who rarely read”.
    • This is regardless of where they live, how wealthy or poor they are, and other socio-economic factors.
  • 5. Reading Challenges and Awards
    • NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge Yr 7-9
    • WHS Reading Challenges
        • Yr 7-9
        • Yr 10 Readers Challenge
        • Senior Readers Challenge
        • Genre Reading Awards
    • and student reading Outcome Awards can build toward other school awards.
    • PLUS you get tickets in regular prize draws throughout the year!
    • There are links and information to help you with reading choices at Just Read! on the Wollumbin Library Links site or just ask in the library.
    • and look out for Book Week “Champions Read” events, challenges & prizes in Term 3.
  • 6. WHS Library Licence
    • The Licence Booklet includes several activities. These activities ensure that:
    • You know your way around the library.
    • You can use the school intranet.
    • You are able to find resources from the catalogue.
    • Complete the essential tests & get your licence (+ tickets in the Year 7 Licensee prize Draw)
    • The Licence Booklet includes:
    • essential skill tests & creative design activities;
    • other optional activities & further information;
    • Steps to Success with The Information Process support for you in doing research tasks.
    • Essential tasks include:
      • Library Orientation – mind map, glossary & plan
      • Finding Resources (How to use Web Enquiry)
      • Alphabetical Order – for Fiction shelving
      • Dewey Decimal System – for Non-Fiction shelving
      • Order in the Library Games
      • + create a Personal Book Mark
    • Your booklet will be kept in the library for completion in Term 1 2012. Prize Draw tickets are awarded for Essential & Optional Tasks. Your Booklet can then be taken home as a handy homework helper.
