  1. 1. Who is Eric Schmidt Eric Emerson Schmidt was born in April 27, 1955 is an engineer, Chairman/CEO of Google and a former member of the Board of Directors of Apple Inc. He is the author of the lex lexical analyzer software for Unix. He has also sat on the boards of trustees for Carnegie Mellon University and Princeton University. Eric Schmidt was born in Washington, D.C. and grew up in Blacksburg, Virginia. After graduating from Yorktown High School, Eric Schmidt attended Princeton University where he earned a BSEE in 1976. At the University of California, Berkeley, he earned an MS in 1979 for designing and implementing a network linking the campus computer center, the CS and the EECS departments, and a PhD in 1982 in EECS with a dissertation about the problems of managing distributed software development and tools for solving these problems. He was joint author of lex (a lexical analyzer and an important tool for compiler construction). He taught at Stanford Business School as a part time professor. He lives in Atherton, California, with his wife Wendy. He is also on the list of ART news 200 top art collectors. Since joining Google in 2001, Eric Schmidt has helped grow google .com. His background uniquely prepares him to lead Google’s efforts toward technological solutions that focus on users. Eric oversees the company’s technical and business strategy with Sergy Brin and Larry Page, and the rest of the executive team. Prior to Google, Eric was the chairman and CEO of Novell and Chief Technology Officer at Sun Microsystems. That is where he created Java, Sun’s platform- independent programming technology. He holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Princeton University as well as a master’s degree and Ph.D. in computer science from the University of California, Berkeley. Eric is a member of President Obama’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. He was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 2006 and inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences as a fellow in 2007. Eric also chairs the board of the New America Foundation. Since coming to Google, Eric has focused on building the corporate infrastructure needed to maintain Google’s rapid growth as a company and on ensuring that quality remains high while product development cycle times are kept to a minimum. Along with Larry and Sergey, Eric shares responsibility for Google’s day-to-day operations. Eric’s Novell experience culminated a 20-year record of achievement as an Internet strategist, entrepreneur and developer of great technologies. His well-seasoned perspective perfectly complements Google’s needs as a young and rapidly growing search engine with a unique corporate culture. Eric is connected to 140 board members in 5 different organizations across 8 different industries. He is 55 years old and still living. His total annual compensation is $1,661 USD (as of Fiscal Year 2009). Total compensation is $245,322 a year ….. that’s pretty good.
