  • 6. Leadership is NOT… TITLE or POSITION  Leadership is… The LEGACY you leave by the way you LIVE your life and the IMPACT you make on the lives of others

    • Tell me the TRUTH
    • Help me COMMITT to a vivid and inspiring VISION of the future
    • Develop and grow the SKILLS to successfully achieve the vision
    • Demonstrate true PASSION and DEDICATION for the vision

  • 11. I am good at what I do… and I do it because I care about you. The mantra of great leaders: 
  • 12. Why you need to be an expert at collaboration and teamwork:
    • You cannot succeed alone.
    • You need a team of the brightest people you can possibly find to help you.
    • You need to help the team work extremely well together.
    • You need the team to support you with enthusiasm, respect and trust.
    • But don’t take my word for it…
    

    • Build a network of great relationships with people who want to see you succeed.
    • You don’t have all of the answers, so ask for help and advice from the smartest people you can find.
    • Learn to be a learner.
    • Listen intently to the people that you serve.

    irection – vivid, clear, inspiring --- shared easurements – specific, observable, focused - binary ompetence – very good at what they do ommunication – open, honest, courageous, respectful utual Accountability – ALL team members iscipline – do this every day… without fail. 
  • 16. Is your chapter a high-functioning team ? 1-10
    • An extremely clear mandate that all the team members are fully committed to achieving?
    • A written set of ground rules for performance expectations and behavior ?
    • Effective meetings that stay on agenda and always end with clearly identified next steps and action owners?
    • 100% Clarity around assignments and appropriate competencies?
    • An agreed upon decision making process?
    • A clearly defined process for reviewing team effectiveness and dealing with issues and conflict within the team.
    • A strong sense of camaraderie, mutual support, respect and mutual accountability?
    • Very high levels of courageous, open, honest and frank communication.
    
  • 17. Every chapter MUST operate as an effective, high-performance team… Remember: We are all in the same boat together ! 
  • 18. Even the best ideas are useless… 
  • 19. Where are we going + How will we behave on the way. Focus – Discipline - Action Few critical objectives “ NO” Guiding Collation… The entire team Vision + Values Strategy Plans Goals / Objectives Tactics / Actions Procedures / Protocols Repeatable Process Honest /clear / consistent / relentless Training + time / money / supplies / people Measure / Track Over-communicate Transparency Renewal Praise + Celebration and Eliminate Mediocrity 
  • 20. Ideas into Action
    • Pick just a FEW critical objectives (4-7) to implement.
    • Create a guiding coalition of key brothers that are100% committed.
    • Build a preliminary plan, create some strategies, cobble together a few creative ideas, put some stuff on paper --- then go get feedback and input from everyone.
    • Build consensus, gain buy-in, expand the commitment… create a SHARED vision of the future that the entire chapter is inspired to achieve.
    • Develop SMART goals, assign action owners, set due dates, confirm competence and needed support, create systems and processes, focus on effective execution.
    • Review progress DAILY, hold people 100% accountable, ask for HELP --- be rigorous – but never ruthless.
    • Celebrate small and big victories, give ample praise, thank people often, show them you appreciate them -- AND… deal decisively with mediocrity.
    

    • Make the decision to be you very BEST SELF
    • Make the decision to positively IMPACT the lives of your brothers… and the world.
