Every month at rbb PR, a different staffer has to give a presentation spotlighting a National Media Outlet relevant to a handful of different rbb clients. We are instructed to get in touch with them, find the right contacts, and give a basic introduction to the outlet and to pitching them. The presentation is very brief (5min+) but is aimed at providing a crash course in that outlet to the rbb team. March was my month, and I presented on The Huffington Post.

General Pitching Tips <ul><li>Since HuffPo is a network of distributed contributors, it is very hard to pitch a single person </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Think of it as a million freelancers who sometimes write along a certain beat </li></ul></ul><ul><li>General newstips: [email_address] </li></ul><ul><li>Best advice = pitch your CLIENT, not the story </li></ul><ul><ul><li>They do accept submissions to be bloggers </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>[email_address] </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>=>Lengthy description of the post, full copy preferable </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>=>Bio/description of the contributor </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>They also invite regular commenters who offer insight to become bloggers </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Use the “Big News” section/subsections; try to pitch regular contributors </li></ul><ul><li>Find authors in other social networks (e.g. Twitter, their own personal blog) and start engaging them there </li></ul><ul><li>Remember the best practices rules to blogger outreach </li></ul>
