iFreeThePostcode
Free The Postcode!
In the UK, postcode data is expensive.
Crowdsourcing the data can make it free.
iFreeThePostcode
Puts collection of
postcodes and
locations into one app
Simplifies submissions
Increases number of
contributors
iRoute(?)
Generates a route
across Open Street
Map data
Currently simply
displays list of roads
you need to follow
Future versions could
be as capable as any
sat-nav device
iPhone Development Issues
Objective C is a new language for many developers
Have to be very careful with memory usage
iPhone Simulator does simulate location apps well
Debugging on the device involves a cost and is then
fiddly to setup
Can’t run processes in the background, makes location
tracking apps impossible
iPhone Development
Positives
Debugging on the device gives lots of feedback and,
once setup, works really well
The iPhone SDK makes it easy for you to create good
looking apps in a short space of time
The SDK gives you access to most of the features of
the iPhone allowing the creation of novel apps
Ideas for future apps
Football app
Fixtures and results per-team, league table, etc.
mapme.at
Location tracking, ability to find nearby friends
Suggestions welcome!
