A brief summary :
Caixa M á gica is a software and solutions provider for GNU/Linux based Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) Systems.
Linux- Caixa M á gica is the main Linux Distribution available in Portugal and in 2000 one of the co-founders was awarded the Pr é mio Mil é nio 2000 Expresso award for the project.
Originally based in the research arm of ISCTE, ADETTI it soon outgrew the available resources and has relocated twice to larger offices.
Caixa Magica's main office is now found in the building that used to be the main Portuguese Stock Exchange.
We wish to be a leader in the Open Source industry and we want to realise them through various aspects:
Software: Linux Caixa Mágica – 'The' Portuguese distribution
Appliances : CAMES “powered by Ipbrick”
Consulting : Projects and involvement in F/OSS and areas relating to technology.
R & D: Innovation at all levels and through all aspects.
Business: Helping customers realise the benefits that F/OSS allow for.

Continuation of the partnership with Mandriva as a base.
Choice of Gnome 2.26 /KDE 4.2.
Many packages and applications have had partial if not full translations to Portuguese.
RPM based system that uses a port of APT, APT-RPM.

Who, where and what?
The distribution is available at hundreds of Portuguese Computer stores and specialised resellers.
It is a SME and has 15 full time staff as well as many more that work under other companies but work on Caixa M á gica projects.
Along with working for the incumbent Telecommunication operator, Portugal Telecom, CMS works with a variety of other companies and government bodies.
The Caixa Magica Operating System is installed on many Hospital, Municipal Authorities and more than 1,100 schools as well as over 10 universities.
The System has also been installed in many enterprise environments and over 650,000 computers as part of widescale Portuguese initiatives.
Who we work for continued
Caixa M á gica works also with the Portuguese Army for deploying more than 120 GNU/Linux based security appliances.
Since 2006 CMS has been sub-contracted by the Portuguese Ministry of Justice for maintaining Linux servers in critical data-centers.
