Michigan and illinois are leading the way in nurse practitioner schools

  1. 1. Michigan and IllinoisAre Leading The WayIn Nurse Practitioner Schools
  2. 2. One of the driving forces behind changes in the curriculum at most nurse practitioner colleges today is the many levels of healthcare reform that has taken place over the last few years.Once the majority of the changes takes place in a couple of years, there will be an even greater need for people who can take on the responsibilities and duties of a doctor, and the one that fits that bill the most is the nurse practitioner.
  3. 3. Colleges everywhere have expanded their schools of nursing in order to meet that challenge, and offer scholarships to make it happen.
  4. 4. Michigan nurse practitioner colleges and universitiesThe first major change that took place in nurse practitioner colleges happened in the state of Michigan, just over the last few years.
  5. 5. A major reason for a lack of nursing candidates attending school over the last decade is due to the economic woes felt in a state that was once driven by the steel and automotive industries.With economic losses accumulating, there have been less students applying to, and attending colleges than there were just a decade ago.
  6. 6. To answer the current and future needs for healthcare professionals, Michigan nurse practitioner schools have instituted three new scholarship opportunities, geared specifically for nurse practitioners and others.
  7. 7. The first is specific to the nursing industry, and is referred to as The Nursing Scholarship Program.Paying for tuition, as well as a monthly stipend for expenses, this scholarship program only requires in return that recipients pledge to work for a minimum of two years in a health care position.
  8. 8. Another scholarship regional to Michigan is the Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students program.This is designed to help students from families whose income falls below the US Census Bureau’s measurement of median income in the country.
  9. 9. Foster children, especially, will benefit from this program, as they cannot claim the income from a family that has not formally adopted them.Lastly, The National Health Service Corporation is now offering scholarships for those wishing to become family nurse practitioners, and midwives.
  10. 10. Changes in IllinoisIllinois is perhaps one of the largest states hit by the severe shortage of nursing and medical professionals. That is the driving force behind changes in scholarship opportunities for nursing professionals that have taken place over the last few years.
  11. 11. All nursing scholarships given in Illinois now ask for the recipient to agree to work in a particularly depressed area of the state after graduation, be it urban or country.Considering that these scholarships cover tuition, and expenses for both new and returning students, that demand is more than reasonable.
  12. 12. The Medical Student Scholars Program has been extended to cover Illinois nurse practitioner schools candidates, especially for the fields of family practice, pediatrics and obstetrics or gynecology.
  13. 13. The Allied Health Care Professional Scholarship Program offers assistance for nurse practitioners, physician assistants and midwives, covering up to 75% of tuition yearly. The Nurse Educator Scholarship offers nurses the chance to become teachers, covering full tuition in return for a two-year commitment. http://www.nursepractitionercareerinformation.com
