    Independent 2gether - Presentation Transcript

    1. Independent 2gether NAAPS/Innovation Exchange
    2. Social care now represents a big opportunity for innovation
      • “ Social care has gone from being deeply unfashionable to being the most innovative public service”
      • Matthew Taylor, RSA
    3. Personal budgets are a big reason for this shift, empowering people Confiscation Tax and spend policies see money taken from people and spent on their behalf, Donation Benefits and tax breaks enable people spend their own money as they wish, with little or no support Personal budgets: People know their entitlement and negotiate how decisions about this money should be made
    4. Personal budgets are a ‘platform’ for innovation When gold was found in the west, the needs of prospectors drove innovation. They needed lots of help from coach builders and horse breeders. The development of personal budgets is also driving innovation, creating new types of demand and new businesses.
    5. But innovation in social care needs support – it won’t happen by magic Public provision of social care is big money, but it’s dominated by big providers that provide bulk solutions for blocks of people. Radical personalisation is not the norm. That will take new people, new thinking and new partnerships
    6. Respite care is a great example of where new thinking is needed Brilliant online innovators Supported short breaks around the world Carers and those they care for
    7. Short breaks face a classic problem of information
      • Carers and the people they care for want breaks from each other that they can enjoy.
      • ‘ Respite’ can be institutional, inflexible and just dull.
      • There are fantastic supported short breaks out there. But people don’t know about them
    8. And we are inspired by how these have been solved elsewhere
      • Social care needs a ‘trip adviser’ for people wanting a supported short breaks telling you:
      • Where it is, how much it costs and when it’s available
      • Who is it suitable for
      • Whether people who’ve been there think its any good
    9. We believe that this problem can be solved too
      • We have:
      • Great networks within the world of social care and a commitment to solving this problem
      • Access to information about what supported short breaks are out there
      • We need:
      • A brilliant online innovator who can create the SSB Trip Adviser
      • A commercial innovator who can make sure the site goes world wide and pays for itself
      • An investor (or two) to pay for the development work
      • Can you help?
