  4. 4. also... CC is a middle ground between “all rights reserved” and “no rights reserved” (public domain)

  6. 6. CC assists creators in assigning certain rights to the public while they retain other rights
  7. 7. CC makes well-written, reusable legal documentation and promotes those who use those documents
  8. 8. Which rights are involved?
  9. 9. Always with CC: * you have to credit the artist (marketing) * copying is allowed (wide distribution)
  10. 10. Creator can choose to restrict: * commercial use * reuse
  11. 11. What's the business opportunity?
  12. 12. Big Media is anti-technology, risk averse and won't permit experimentation and they are in control
  13. 13. CC-licensed media is pre- cleared and enables business model experimentation
  14. 14. and the public is angry at Big Media but loves Creative Commons
  15. 15. With CC you get: * free press exposure * public love * word-of-mouth
