I. EXCECUTIVE SUMMARY
A. One-Page description of the project
“Child abuse casts a shadow the length of a lifetime.”
-Herbert Ward
Every 9 seconds a child abuse report is filed in the United States. Two-thirds of the estimated 1
million children who run away each year were physically or sexually abused. Every Death Row inmate
reported growing up in a violent, abusive environment. Olive Crest is dedicated to preventing child abuse,
to Treating and Educating at risk children and to Preserving the family… “One Life at a Time.”® .Olive
Crest is a non-profit organization that serves the community by providing homes for children who are
dependents of the state. These children have been taken into state custody due to abandonment, neglect
and/or abuse. Olive Crest provided in home support, on-going education classes and reimbursement for
the care of children. (http://www.olivecrest.org).For over 36 years as of now, Olive crest provided a
loving care over 40,000 children’s and families together. From past and now, Olive Crest was proudly
served to California, Nevada, and the Pacific Northwest. This organization is not just a home for the kids;
this is an organization where they can develop, build, and discover their own passion in life, leadership,
characteristics and realize who they really are.
Olive Crest continues to serve for over 3o years by:
Providing loving families in safe homes for neglected children
Educating children through schooling and vocational training
Healing emotional needs with individual, and family counseling
Keeping families together through parent education and child abuse prevention
Encouraging recreational activities, nutritional aid, and the help to develop well-rounded life styles
To this Community Service Project We will ensure that everyone Get involved, Get subscribes,
Get connected and raised the awareness of the DECA members, Clark High School students, staffs, and
community members and specially YOU! And we were hoping that our messages will be delivered to all
Las Vegas residents and tourists that visited the city. In this kind of economy, collecting money for this
project was absolutely challenging you must know right product, price, place, promotion, and strategies.
Because people are now saving their hard dollar to their pocket and piggy bank. Although most of the our
projects will be done in raising money for the Olive Crest Organization, these project’s main themes are
still to serve, participate, get involved, get love, get subscribes, and educate the community specially the
parents (fosters & teens), residents and tourists in Las Vegas, other neighboring States,& people in
different ethnicity (Latin, White, Asian, European, Black). It’s Time to Get Involved!
“Child abuse and neglect offend the basic values of our state. We have a responsibility
to provide safe settings for at-risk children and facilitate permanent placement for children
who cannot return home.”
-Matt Blunt
II. INTRODUCTION
A. Historic background of the selected community service or charity
In 1973, when Olive Crest was founded it was a single home for four teenage girls.
Yesterday, in 1973, Dr. Donald Verleur and his wife Lois open the first home for abused,
abandoned and neglected girls in Anaheim. It is called the Olive Crest home because an olive
tree in front stands as a symbol of peace, safety, and giving, and the Verleurs wanted the home to
be a family for girls, symbolized by a family crest. Today, Olive Crest serves over 1,500
children and families each year with the same commitment to peace, safety, and family unity as
in the beginning. With your help, Olive Crest has provided counseling and parental guidance, 24-
hour shelter and care, specialized education and vocational training, health and nutrition
programs, recreation opportunities, and spiritual growth for over 15,000 children and families
since 1973. Currently Olive Crest turns away over 100 children a month who need help...will
you continue to help us reach out? Tomorrow, Olive Crest's vision is to serve 2,000 children and
families by the year 2000. Every child who needs Olive Crests's help receives care; and with
your help, we continue to break the cycle of abuse and heal broken families...one life at a time.

THE REAL-LIFE STORY:
A Las Vegas Resident named Angella Tiger, playing and caring for kids is just always a
dream for Angella. But rather than taking an average step, like working with children full-time,
she decided to go all the way by taking a position as a foster parent through the Las Vegas
branch of Olive Crest found in West Sahara Avenue. Tiger began working with Olive Crest and
she was licensed to care for six foster children, in addition to her three biological daughters.
Tiger currently has five foster daughters living with her, and she and her husband are in the
process of adopting two of those foster daughters, a sibling set.
Jennifer Bevacqua, division director for Olive Crest in Las Vegas said that Angella sees a
great need for these types of programs because so much of the homeless population is made up
of foster children who don't receive help making the transition out of the foster care system.
There are more than 2,000 children in the Clark County foster care system, although Olive Crest
deals with a smaller number of youngsters, Bevacqua said. \"If we can make an impact -- if we
can help 50 kids, and know that they are going to really good homes, and we can really stay
involved with their lives and make a difference, that's huge,\" she said. Tiger also said she
sometimes feels that foster children are unfairly stigmatized. \"It seems like there is a myth that
foster kids are bad kids, and they're not, but maybe they are coming from a bad situation,\" Tiger
said. \"What they really become in life depends on the situation they get to go into once they've
entered the foster care system.\"
\"It's amazing, the way these kids shine when they're in a good home getting loving care
and they know someone is there to advocate for them,\" Jennifer Bevacqua, division director for
Olive Crest in Las Vegas said. \"They hold their heads high, their facial expressions change. They
know that they are able to make good decisions, make friends, and that there is someone there to
care for them who are willing to do something as simple as buy them ice cream, or ask them how
their day was. It changes them so much.\"
Olive Crest Vision
The vision of Olive Crest is to be the national leader in the prevention and treatment of child
abuse. To accomplish this vision, Olive Crest has developed the following strategy to be reached

Balance Sheet: Fiscal Year Ending June 30, 2007
Note: The balance sheet gives a snapshot of the financial health of an organization at a
particular point in time. An organization's total assets should generally exceed its total
liabilities, or it cannot long survive, but the types of assets and liabilities also must be
considered. For instance, an organization's current assets (cash, receivables, securities, etc.)
should be sufficient to cover its current liabilities (payables, deferred revenue, and current year
loan and note payments). Otherwise, the organization may face solvency problems. On the other
hand, an organization whose cash and equivalents greatly exceed its current liabilities might not
be putting its money to best use.

B. Description of the Local DECA chapter, school, and community
Clark High School DECA is a Club and Organization where people Get Involved, Get
Connected, Get trained and Give back to community. So that is why Clark High School DECA
chapter has expands and grown from past years to now. DECA in Clark do many various
activities especially to the community of Las Vegas. During the school year, DECA will do some
fun and tremendous activities and fundraising inside and outside of Clark High School. The
willingness the DECA chapter members have to help out and be involved in the community is
remarkable and unforgettable. Participating and serving the Local Community is just one of the
great ways to give back to the adults, and children in the community, but it also helps to raise the
awareness of the DECA program.
Being freshmen and in Magnet Program called Academy of Finance we have to take
Marketing I as a beginning part of the year. You don’t have to be a junior or senior to be in
DECA or to compete for DECA. (Vincent Farese, Marketing and DECA advisors at Clark High
School).
CLARK HIGH SCHOOL is a public high school that opened in 1965 and is one of forty-
four public high schools serving Las Vegas valley. The enrollment of over 2600 students in
grades nine through twelve represents a diverse ethnic and economic school community. The
majority of these students indicate a strong interest in pursuing a pos-secondary education. Clark
High School is accredited by the Northwest Association of Secondary and Higher Education.
As a direct-wide implementation of special emphasis programs, Clark High School is the
site of three programs. These three magnet programs are for highly qualified students from
throughout the Clark County School District. Students in these rigorous programs are given the
opportunity to take High School classes that focus on a particular interests and designed to serve
the needs of students as they meet the challenges of each instructional day, additional
components to the comprehensive program are the Academy for Mathematics, Science, and
Applied Technology (A.M.S.A.T.); Teacher Education Academy at Clark High (T.E.A.C.H.);
and The Academy of Finance (A.O.F.). The academic offerings at Clark High School are
balanced by extensive co-curricular and extracurricular activities. A full complement of athletic
programs offers students an opportunity to participate in interscholastic sports. As part of a
district-wide implementation of special emphasis programs, Clark High School is the site of
three magnets. Magnet programs are for qualified students who are recruited from middle and
high schools throughout the greater Las Vegas area.
The Academy of Finance (A.O.F.) it’s a program that utilizes the National Foundation’s
curriculum that introduces students to the professional working world of business and finance.
Students engage in an integrated learning experience with emphasis on business, economic, and
finance component infused with industry concepts and career awareness.
Academy of Math, Science and Applied Technology (A.M.S.A.T.) a pre-university
program that offers accelerated classes in mathematics and science. Technology is integrated
across the curriculum, and ―real-world‖ experiences are emphasized.
Teacher Education Academy at Clark High (T.E.A.C.H.) is a response to the
campaign for Students Today... Educators Tomorrow, a challenge for more students to choose
the profession of teaching in order to fill the rising need for teachers in the Clark County School
District.
Last year, U.S. news and world report named Clark High School as Silver level on Best
High Schools in America (2007-2008). A Clark calculus teacher won the national Siemens
Award for Advanced Placement Courses (1 of 50 in the nation). AARP selected Clark High
Schools one of fifty Legacy Award winners for innovative educational programs. Clark was
recognized by the national governor’s association for its rapid expansion of advanced placement
classes. Clark’s class of 2007 had four national merit scholarship recipients. Clark’s orchestra
and band programs performed at Carnegie hall. Clark class of 2007 received over 5.5 million in
higher education scholarships.
Over the 30 years, Clark High School has received national and regional recognition in
sports, vocal music, and dramatic competition. The Clark High School band, orchestra, and choir
appear regularly at community sponsored activities. Clark High School has active participation
in athletics, fielding varsity, junior varsity, and freshman teams in football, cross-country, tennis,
basketball, soccer, wrestling, volleyball, track and field, softball, and baseball. Over thirty active
clubs and organizations are available for student participation, including academic and service
clubs such as National Honor Society, Key Club, and Student Government and Leadership.
Clubs which honor and highlight culture are also prominent on the Clark High School campus,
such as Spanish and Japanese clubs, and the Black Student Leadership group. Student- interest
and topical clubs around; for example, STATUS, Art club, and other clubs are active.
“The staff and students are extremely cultured at Clark High School. This is a school that
dominates in academics and school spirit. The teachers are excellent and the students have pride
for their school. I am proud to say I was once a Clark Charger. Any student attending this school
should be lucky for the education they are receiving, especially if they are involved with any of
the magnet programs.” Posted January 8, 2009(http://www.greatschools.net)
Las Vegas (Spanish: The Meadows) is internationally known for hospitality resorts,
gambling, entertainment, and shopping. Las Vegas popular for The Entertainment Capital of The
World. Paleo-Indians first visited the Las Vegas valley hundreds of years ago. They lived as
nomads, traveling and camping in different locations. These people left behind petroglyphs that
help us tell our early history. A young scout named Rafael Rivera is the first person of European
ancestry to look upon the valley. His discovery of a valley with abundant wild grasses growing
and a plentiful water supply reduces the journey by several days. 2000 census population
(rank): 478,434 (32); % change: 85.2; Male: 243,077 (50.8%); Female: 235,357 (49.2%);
White: 334,230 (69.9%); Black: 49,570 (10.4%); American Indian and Alaska Native: 3,570
(0.7%); Asian: 22,879 (4.8%); Other race: 46,643 (9.7%); Two or more races: 19,397 (4.1%);
Hispanic/Latino: 112,962 (23.6%). 2000 percent population 18 and over: 74.1%; 65 and
over: 11.6%; Median age: 34.5. Las Vegas has a favorable business climate: taxes are relatively
low, and there is neither city nor state income taxes. This is because gambling and sales taxes,
paid by tourists, have allowed the city and state governments to avoid personal and corporate
income taxes. Popular nearby tourist attractions are Hoover Dam and Lake Mead (the largest
man-made lake in the U.S.), Lake Mojave, the Mt. Charleston Recreation Area, Red Rock
Canyon, and the Death Valley National Monument. The valley is named Las Vegas, Spanish for
\"The Meadows.\" \"Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas\" sign is created by Betty Willis.

III. CONTRIBUTIONS TO A NEEDED COMMUNITY SERVICE OR CHARITY
A. Description and purpose of the project
In working to this Community Service Project, we were able to see that many abused and
neglect kids in the community have benefited from the Olive Crest. Supporting Olive Crest
where people in all ages, ethnicity, gender, and levels of living support for a Good! The Clark
High School and other clubs and organizations such as DECA Chapter, Student Council, Key
Club, S.T.A.T.U.S., and more. Clark Get Involved, Served, Participate, and help Las Vegas
Community for Numerous years. We help every time, everywhere, and anywhere; even during
Break, Seasons, Non-School Days, and Rest day. Whatever happens Clark are always in the side
and corner to help the community. The DECA Chapter of Clark, we were able to understand the
living of each kid and know the true life stories when they are not in Olive Crest yet. All hard
work, fundraising, and sweat are surely going to be benefit the youth in Olive Crest. We don’t
offer to be paid in every hours and sweat we drop in the ground. Just a simple smile and happy
faces from them is absolutely worth a million dollar. It’s just a proof that they really value and
appreciate all sweat we tear over the sun, cold, and harm.
B. Rational of Selecting the Community Service or Charitable Project
From over hundreds of thousands both Public and Private Charities and Organizations from
all around the world. I spent and made some research, surf to web, ask people for suggestions,
and read some articles. Finally, I decided to choose an Organization or Charities that have a local
office and serve in our Las Vegas Community. In my own opinion, choosing of the charities are
so much important and a MUST! You have to know of course the background and current status
to the government and they’re publicity. Are the charities legal? Or they just create a charity for
scamming and trick people in just a click of their hand. Scam is now the number one crime for
me I receive bunch of scam email messages that who asking for redeem my winning cash from
lottery, dead people, and yahoo and asking to give my own personal information, and even a
scam check that mostly received in your mailbox and normally asks to be a secret shopper. Some
fake charity or organizations mostly used the youth in Africa who is now drought in food!
C. Description of the Benefits of the project to the chapter and chapter member’s
understanding of leadership development, social intelligence and community
service.
In this type of economy, the roller coaster of stock in market, and world crisis whose each
countries experiencing. Each people must Get Involved, Get Subscribes, and Get Connected. The
chapter members are number one who are going to benefit in this project. We have better
understanding of how that and we are so lucky that we have a parents or guardians who really
care us and didn’t neglect and didn’t hurt us in the monster way (abuse). The innocent kids and
teens in Olive Crest are not lucky because they felt a trash to their parents. Sense of
Responsibility, Self Reliance, Cooperation, Helpfulness, Behavior, Attitude, Leadership and
Sportsmanship are some character traits that each member must have.

B. Description of project and documentation
\"\"I believe that a society cannot be truly successful with a mentality that every individual
should only worry about themselves and in the end things will work out for the best.
Community service is about building a stronger community whether on campus, in your
neighborhood, city, state, or any other type of community.\"\"
--Regis Murayi ’10 Washington University of St. Louis
Our projects promote intercultural education, characteristics, and strengthen through
community service. Because of this, you will find yourself being a part of something really
worthwhile. But you will also find that an experience with one of our projects will have a long-
lasting and profound effect on yourself.
The project for our community service will be more than one event. We will host local
events in Las Vegas and a Clark High School Events. As CHS D.E.C.A. Chapter participated and
helped Las Vegas fro numerous years, this project is the one who CHS D.E.C.A. surely be
challenge. These projects can reflect to their wants to be and need to be.
As been said above, we will host different or more than one event for hits community
service. But before the projects, we have to think and create an original title campaign which will
be publish in poster and will expose in different areas. We would create a poster that represents
Clark, D.E.C.A., and Olive Crest Organization. From different names have been think and came
up from. As been finalized, this will be called ―GCSI‖ (Get Connected, Subscribes, and
Involved) (Attached Poster Image Available See Page 34).
This poster will be use for marketing strategy where our target market will attract and
expecting to participate and get more people involved. This will be distributed throughout the
Clark High School, Neighbors, media, local business, streets, cars, and to the Las Vegas Strip
and downtown. This one of the unique variant that can use during/before the events.
Now, we would conclude and describe the project. The projects are divided like a pie into
4 pieces or categories. The first project, we will provide a gadget to the Olive Crest Website
(OliveCrest.org) where people can visit and donate money. But, people don’t have to take out
their MasterCard or visa. So, what if we could raise money for our favorite charities and schools
by doing something we do every day — searching the Internet? Because in searching and
shopping; people can donate to the Olive Crest. Good Search (http://www.goodsearch.com/) is a
search engine which donates 50-percent of its revenue to the charities and schools designated by
its users. It's a simple and compelling concept. You use Good Search exactly as you would any
other search engine. Because it's powered by Yahoo!, you get proven search results. The money
Good Search donates to your cause comes from its advertisers — the users and the organizations
do not spend a dime! In 2007, Good Search was expanded to include Good Shop
(http://www.goodsearch.com/goodshop.aspx), an online shopping mall of world-class merchants
dedicated to helping fund worthy causes across the country. Each purchase made via the Good
Shop mall results in a donation to the user's designated charity or school – averaging
approximately 3% of the sale, but going up to 20% or even more. This website is not scam
website; these have been certified in public that really can trust 100%. GoodSearch.com have

Smart Money, CNN, fox news and many more! Last year search engines generated close to $8
billion in revenue from advertisers. We've developed a way to direct some of that money to the
causes you care about most. It's easy ... every time you search the Internet at GoodSearch.com,
your charity or school earns money and the more you search, the more they make. Add up the
money generated from all your searches and those done by the millions of other people who we
hope will use GoodSearch, and we can make a real difference to the people and causes that need
funds most.
How much money could this generate for my charity or school?
We estimate that each Web search will generate approximately $0.01 for the designated charity
or school (image, video and site-specific searches are not included). It quickly adds up! Here's an
example of how much your organization can earn:
Charity or School Size Number of Supporters Average Searches Per Day Estimated Revenue/Year
Small 100 2 $730
Medium 1,000 2 $7,300
Large 10,000 2 $73,000
The sky is the limit. The more people use GoodSearch, the more money will be directed towards
causes. There is no cap on how much money we will direct to charities. Goodsearch.com
Why is GoodSearch especially relevant to charities today?
GoodSearch can not only help fund organizations focused on recent major disasters including
9/11, the Indian Ocean tsunami and Hurricane Katrina, but it is invaluable to the hundreds of
thousands of smaller causes that have a hard time raising funds to begin with and often see
further shortages in contributions due to the overwhelming support for disaster relief.
GoodSearch is also a great way for people to stay connected with a cause. Every day through
GoodSearch, users are able do something to help a specific cause and show their loyalty to an
organization. In addition to this added cash, smaller charities and schools benefit from the
increased awareness and visibility they can get by being listed with GoodSearch or featured as
the site's \"Charity of the Day\" on its home page. Goodsearch.com
How much can I generate for my charity or school by shopping through GoodShop?
The amount donated is different for each retailer but it averages approximately 3% of the total
sale and can go up to 20% and beyond (the percentage donated is indicated below the merchants
logo). The total amount raised can quickly add up and the sky is the limit. The more people shop
through GoodSearch, the more money will be directed towards good causes. There is no cap on
how much money we will direct to charities and schools!
Here's an estimate of how much your organization can earn:
Charity or Number of Average Amount Percentage Estimated
School Size Supporters Purchased/Year Donated Donation/Year
Small 100 $500 3% $1,500
Medium 1,000 $500 3% $15,000
Large 10,000 $500 3% $150,000

Cause” Many times you can register on event day; you will get a free shirt with a unique
customization designs and will create by one of the Clark High School D.E.C.A. member who is
also starting his own shirt business (Attached Shirt Designs Available See Page 35). and you will
enjoy a great short walk or run. There is usually a small registration fee, which can range
anywhere from $15-35. Some charities may suggest a higher donation, or request that you get
people to ―sponsor‖ you in the walk to raise money.
Express: At the Starting Gate!
This event is more different from other projects; this has its own board of
members/committee. Means everybody really DOES and WANT it! To start any race, you must
have a starting gate. We would begin by recruiting an extra- steering committee. Also utilize the
extra- steering committee in helping select other committee personnel to help insure the success
of the race. The Chair should immediately begin looking for someone to head each of the
following:
Traffic Control finds a suitable walk site, contacts the police and city officials and completes
the proper permits, recruits members to help manage the route, secures walkie talkies, secures
traffic cones and tape to mark the route. Secures orange vests for all volunteers along the route
(sheriff and county road departments have these).
Hospitality Set up a well-planned Home Base site that will handle large amounts of walkers or
racers. Set up a tent with tables and chairs if available, for the walkers after the race. Plan for a
stage with audio/visual equipment. Provide bottled water, Gatorade, fruit snacks, and other
quick treats for those that finish the race. Provide a pleasant atmosphere as people gather with
music, musicians playing, or a carnival like atmosphere complete with clowns, etc. (or choose
your own theme).
Prize Coordinator Responsible for locating door prizes, awards, and certificates. Ask local or
national businesses for door prizes and gifts.
Registration Responsible for properly recording all participants as they enter. Coordinate with
the Prize Coordinator the proper recognition of those that received door prizes and other
recognition. Hand out T-shirts to participants as they arrive. Utilize an online registration
process to properly set-up event management. Collect any monies and sponsor forms that are
brought in making sure that proper accounting is made for each participant. Report on the
amount raised at the event. Help set up a database so that all donations are accounted for and all
pledges are mailed out to the proper walkathon or marathon sponsor.
We will start promoting these events to chamber of commerce and other civic groups four
months in advance so that they can put this on their calendar of events schedule. Set up speaking
engagements three months before the race or walk at local civic organizations, schools, colleges,
etc. Two months prior to the event, start contacting your newspaper, TV and radio contacts to
determine the best way to get the word out. Get these media outlets to be a \"sponsor\". Agree to
put their name on walk-a-thon items and literature for free publicity in return.
C. Impact goal for the Beneficiary
“I can't change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my
destination.” Jimmy Dean Quotes
The main goal for this community service projects is NOT all about raising money perhaps;
for me, the main goal is all about raising the awareness for the local community, Clark High
School, D.E.C.A. Chapter, and to the youths! This community service will bring a huge impact
to the beneficiary especially to the Olive Crest Organization. This will bring more hope, save,
fun, and peace.
V. EVALUATION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
A. Evaluation of the project
Developing a project evaluation plan will enable you to map out and connect the different
parts of the project. The plan will also provide all project participants (and grant proposal
reviewers) with Information that illustrates how the different parts of the project fit together. In
addition, developing an evaluation method before the project begins allows you to collect
information during the project. Beginning to collect and review data before the project is over
allows you to revise your project if needed. A goal is a ―big picture‖ statement that summarizes
the project’s purpose. Goals for a project are normally broad, ambitious and related to your
Organization’s mission. The timetable for an organization to achieve its long-term goals usually
extends beyond the scope of an individual project.
DEFINITION: Our Community Service project help engages students in helping, community
service projects that relates to the community while building social, civic, and academic skills.
MISSION: Community Service Project for Olive Crest will strengthen the local community,
youth, teenagers, and parents. Through their participation in curriculum-driven projects,
D.E.C.A., CHS DECA, parents, and youth will be exposed to new concepts in learning and will
develop a stronger sense of social responsibility and civic awareness
GOALS: This project is a helping hand and an educational strategy will enhance social and
academic learning while developing character and citizenship skills.
B. Impact of the community service or charitable project
\"My service begins and ends in my home community; it starts with the people around me
and reaches out to people across the world, but by the end of the day, it ends once again with my
friends and neighbors. My service is about actions both big and small, from massive fundraisers
to one-on-one conversations. It is anything I can do to support others, whether large and
planned or by chance during my day.\"
-Matt Zinter, 07Washington University of ST. Louis
The community Service will bring a huge impact to the local community and to your
home. This will raise the rights of each people living, protection needed of each youth who are
abuse and neglect, have a better understanding for the human rights. Explain and spread the
word how you and we can help for each other. Distinguish the core values they learn to everyone
to their surroundings and later on will realize that all things were been learn is benefiting them
after all.
C. Recommendation(s) for future projects
A review of numerous past years and continuing helping local community by public
service, fundraisings, and service of hands. Our service leads to the capable conclusion that our
project’s beneficiary and of these projects has successfully raise the awareness of each head in
local community. After briefly examining the results of previous projects, it’s have been discuss
a series of five recommendations for future projects. The five recommendations will be surely
related to eco-green, technology, teamwork, current issues, and participation. We’re going to
decrease a project were there is too much spending and a project that is minimizing the
awareness, right conduct, and moral lessons or value learn to future and recent community.
\"Community Service is important because it can put you in situations that you might not have
been in before and enriches your life in this way. You may have questions going into a project
and come out with more than you expected. Doing community service helps build bonds
between those whom you are working with. \"
-Emily Silber, 09
\"Community service brings out the best in us, inspires hope in each other, and empowers us to
believe in a better future.\"
-Matt Zinter, 07
