What’s a CDN? Content Delivery Network. Serves content from servers located close to visitors. Uses DNS magic. Fairly inexpensive these days. Great way to accelerate websites.
Takeaways Both Google Storage and Rackspace Cloud Files are excellent performers. Windows Azure is not as good. Azure might be tuned for larger files. Storage and Cloud Files have 100 % uptime, Azure doesn’t.
What was tested and how? Files sized 1 KB, 5 KB, 10 KB and 25 KB. Typical for website assets. 97381 hits. Segmented by country. 17 selected countries with more than 1000 hits. 57 % of requests from USA.

Things to be aware of Azure and Storage do not offer GZIP. Storage offers free HTTPS. Serving 5 KB files is as fast as 1 KB files.
