    Pancreas no longer produces insulin
    Insulin Dependent
    Insulin shots daily
    Autoimmune disease
    Children and teens
    mostly get it.
    • Chronic disease
    • 3. More common in males.
  • Signs/Symptoms
    Excessive thirst
    Urinate frequently
    Flu like feelings
    Weight loss or gain
    Blurred vision
  • 4. More Signs/Symptoms
    Cuts heal slowly
    Infections
    Tingling in feet and hands
    Swollen gums
    All symptoms due to sugar
  • 5. Diagnosing
    Ask if they have any Signs/Symptoms
    Ask if it runs in family
    Finger prick blood test
    Random blood sugar test
    GTT
  • 6. More Diagnosing
    Fasting blood sugar test
    Normal person would be between 70-110mg/dL
    Urine test
    Glycated hemoglobin test
    All accurate
    Plan what to do with
    disease
  • 7. Treatment
    No cure
    Only can manage
    Blood sugar machine to check blood sugar levels daily
    Insulin injections to eat and to bring down high blood sugar
    Pump (puts insulin in the body without shots (picture))
    Drastic treatment when a pancreas transplant
    Will not kill you if it is managed correctly
  • 8. Problems
    If not controlled
    Eyes will be damaged and will have bad vision
    Feet will lose feeling due to nerve damage
    Heart disease is common
    Kidneys will fail over time
