  • Congratulations on deciding to attend this show. By doing so, you have already completed much of your homework! What I mean is that each of the following remodelers is an established business and a member of PRO…Professional Remodelers of Ohio. So, allot of the initial tasks in selecting a remodeler is already done.
  • Does the remodeler… Maintain a permanent: mailing address phone number, website? E.g. Hinckley Garage Conversion Carry insurance that protects you from claims arising from property damage and jobsite injuries? Ask for a copy of the remodeler’s insurance certificates. E.g. Stolen Property Ask the remodeler how much the project will add to your home’s value and obtain the necessary additional insurance. E.g. Employee gets Injured Have an established presence in the community? How long has the company been in business? (Longevity suggest financial stability.) Possess a trustworthy reputation among customers, peers, and people involved in all aspects of the industry?Does the remodeler have a track record of successful projects similar to yours?E.g. Portfolio Binder Referrals Website Gallery Actively participate in a trade organization such as PRO (Professional Remodelers of Ohio)? These organizations help keep their members informed about new products, construction techniques, business practices, and industry issues. Participation demonstrates a remodeler’s commitment to professionalism and the remodeling industry. Through certification programs, these organizations confer designations such as CPR (Certified Professional Remodeler), and CGR (Certified Graduate Remodeler). How long has the remodeler you are considering been a member? Has the remodeler earned a designation?
  • Why? This photo was taken 3 weeks ago in a home in a North Royalton Structurally, load-bearing wall.
  • Does the remodeler… Have a working knowledge of the many types and ages of homes in the area. What products and materials would the remodeler be likely to us for your project? Does the remodeler offer an array of options and thus demonstrate knowledge of and expertise with a variety of products, materials and techniques?Specialize in particular types of projects? Arrange for the building permit? The person who obtains the permit is the contractor of record and therefore liable for the work. Pulling a permit is in your best interest. Offer a warranty? If so, what kind and for how long? What is covered under the warranty and what is not? Agree to begin and complete your job within your timetable?
  • Buying not only an end product (addition, bathroom, kitchen), but you are also buying the SERVICEDoes the remodeler… Respond promptly to your inquires? Confirm appt’s. On time for appt’s. Follow-up as promised Emphasize service and developing a trusting relationship with you? Listen to and understand your needs and wants and work with you to ensure that the plans accurately reflect your expectations? Initial Appt goalsListenMeasure & PicturesInvestment RangeSchedule Proposal Appointment Facilitate communication among all parties involved in the project? Will the remodeler provide you with schedule updates so you can make appropriate decisions and prepare for any unavoidable inconveniences? Ask how the company handles communications during the construction phase of the job (such as a message center in the house for communication between you and the remodeling team – including the independent trade contractors).
  • Does the contract contain: Parties Involved Scope of Work Reference Finalized Drawings Including material spec’s Apples-to-Apples ComparisonSchedule Start FinishFinancial Terms Total Price Payment Schedule (E.g. Hinckley 90% Down) Changer Orders Warranty Period Arbitration Clause
