  • THE AUTHORITY FROM HEAVENHow can we find it, know it, and follow it?
  • The Authority from Heaven“Jesus entered the temple courts, and, while he was teaching, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him. “Bywhat authority are you doing these things?” they asked. “Andwho gave you this authority?” Jesus replied, “I will also ask youone question. If you answer me, I will tell you by what authorityI am doing these things. John’s baptism—where did it comefrom? Was it from heaven, or from men?” They discussed itamong themselves and said, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he willask, ‘Then why didn’t you believe him?’ But if we say, ‘Frommen’—we are afraid of the people, for they all hold that Johnwas a prophet.” So they answered Jesus, “We don’t know.” Thenhe said, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doingthese things.”(Matthew 21:23–27 NIV)
  • The Authority from HeavenTHE AUTHORITY OF THE FATHER“There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does notaccept my words; that very word which I spoke will condemnhim at the last day. For I did not speak of my own accord, butthe Father who sent me commanded me what to say andhow to say it. I know that his command leads to eternal life.So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me tosay.”” (John 12:48–50 NIV)
  • The Authority from HeavenTHE AUTHORITY OF THE FATHER“Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father inMe? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on Myown authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does theworks. Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me,or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.”(John 14:10–11 NKJV)
  • The Authority from HeavenTHE AUTHORITY OF THE FATHER““I have manifested Your name to the men whom You havegiven Me out of the world. They were Yours, You gave them toMe, and they have kept Your word. Now they have known thatall things which You have given Me are from You. For I havegiven to them the words which You have given Me; and theyhave received them, and have known surely that I came forthfrom You; and they have believed that You sent Me.”(John 17:6–8 NKJV)
  • The Authority from HeavenTHE AUTHORITY OF THE FATHER“Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he willkeep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will cometo him and make Our home with him. He who does not loveMe does not keep My words; and the word which you hear isnot Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.”(John 14:23–24 NKJV)
  • The Authority from HeavenTHE AUTHORITY OF THE CHRIST“And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority hasbeen given to Me in heaven and on earth.”(Matthew 28:18 NKJV)
  • The Authority from HeavenTHE AUTHORITY OF THE CHRIST“Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said:“Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Sonalso may glorify You, as You have given Him authority overall flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as Youhave given Him.”(John 17:1–2 NKJV)
  • The Authority from HeavenTHE AUTHORITY OF THE SPIRIT“However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guideyou into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you thingsto come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mineand declare it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it toyou.”(John 16:13–15 NKJV)
  • The Authority from HeavenTHE AUTHORITY OF THE SPIRIT““These things I have spoken to you while being present withyou. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father willsend in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring toyour remembrance all things that I said to you.”(John 14:25–26 NKJV)
  • The Authority from HeavenTHE AUTHORITY OF THE SPIRIT““But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you fromthe Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from theFather, He will testify of Me.”(John 15:26 NKJV)
  • The Authority from HeavenTHE AUTHORITY OF THE APOSTLES“And you also will bear witness, because you have been with Mefrom the beginning”(John 15:27 NKJV)
  • The Authority from HeavenTHE AUTHORITY OF THE APOSTLES“For I have given to them the words which You have givenMe; and they have received them, and have known surely that Icame forth from You; and they have believed that You sent Me.”(John 17:8 NKJV)
  • The Authority from HeavenTHE AUTHORITY OF THE APOSTLES“I have given them Your word; and the world has hated thembecause they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.”(John 17:14 NKJV)
  • The Authority from HeavenTHE AUTHORITY OF THE APOSTLES“And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, andwhatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, andwhatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.””(Matthew 16:19 NKJV)
  • The Authority from HeavenTHE AUTHORITY OF THE APOSTLES“For even if I should boast somewhat more about ourauthority, which the Lord gave us for edification and notfor your destruction, I shall not be ashamed—”(2 Corinthians 10:8 NKJV)
  • The Authority from HeavenTHE AUTHORITY OF THE THE SCRIPTURES“For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we madeknown to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, butwere eyewitnesses of His majesty. For He received from God theFather honor and glory when such a voice came to Him from theExcellent Glory: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am wellpleased.” And we heard this voice which came from heaven when wewere with Him on the holy mountain. And so we have theprophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a lightthat shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning starrises in your hearts; knowing this first, that no prophecy ofScripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecynever came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke asthey were moved by the Holy Spirit.” (2 Peter 1:16–21 NKJV)
  • The Authority from HeavenTHE AUTHORITY OF THE THE SCRIPTURES“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable fordoctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction inrighteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughlyequipped for every good work.”(2 Timothy 3:16–17 NKJV)
