  • 19. Streaming Audio
    • Definition: Audio that is transmitted over the Internet and played while it is being received
    • Most of it is the product of individuals who want to put content on the Internet (audio blogs)
    • Think of it as a sort of private radio broadcasting system
  • 20. Streaming Audio www.astreauxworld.com www.archive.org/details/audio www.songza.com
  • 21. Streaming Audio
    • Another kind of streaming audio allows you to create your own virtual radio station
  • 22. Internet Radio www.pandora.com www.musicovery.com www.slacker.com
  • 23. Some Possible Issues
    • I can’t find the button to start the play
      • Believe me, it’s there somewhere. Just keep looking
  • 24. Some Possible Issues
    • The audio won’t play
      • Search the screen for tips on installing needed software. There’s usually a button to get the download right there
      • There is never (at least in my experience) a charge for this
      • If it still doesn’t work, it probably isn’t your fault. Try a different page. This stuff is new to the web and isn’t always implemented properly.
  • 25. Some Possible Issues
    • The playback starts and stops in a jerky manner
      • This is caused by the fact that the audio (or video) is trying to play on your computer faster than it is being streamed (downloaded in real time)
      • Press the Pause button to stop the play and wait 30 seconds or so to allow the streaming to take place, then press the Play button to resume playing
  • 26. Some Possible Issues
    • The volume is too high or too low
      • There is usually a “slider” that you can use to increase (slide to the right) or decrease (slide to the left) the volume
      • If you can’t find it (or it doesn’t exist)
        • Click Start > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Volume Tab
        • Then use the slider in the Device Volume section
  • 27. Experiment on Your Own
    • Try to learn how to download and save the audio files to your hard drive
    • Try to learn how to email audio files to a friend
    • Learn more about audio formats. Use wikipedia.com to look up the following audio formats:
      • MGP, MPEG and MP3
      • RM, RA and RAM
    • WAV
    • MIDI
  • 28. Play it on Your Stereo
    • Are there times when you wish you could move your music collection from your PC to the living room?
    • There are devices that make it possible to stream all digital music file formats, wirelessly to your home stereo or powered speakers, without running additional cables.
  • 29. Linksys Wireless Music Bridge 802.11G $99.99
