April 1, 2012Beth Patton, PrincipalRush-Henrietta Central School2034 Lehigh Station RoadHenrietta, NY 14467Dear Ms. Patton,I am writing you to express my interest in the 11th/12th grade school counselor position atRush-Henrietta Senior High School, which was posted on schoolspring.com. I recentlyreceived my provisional certification from the New York State Education Departmentafter completing the Master of Science in Education in School Counseling program atAlfred University in Alfred, NY on May 12, 2012. This position is an excellent fit forme, because it has long a goal of mine to work as a school counselor in a high schoolsetting. When I visited Rush-Henrietta Senior High School’s counseling office during my firstyear as a graduate student, I was impressed with Mr. Teeter’s directive, yet empathicapproach while speaking with students. What I observed that day had a major influenceon the way I counsel today. During my studies at Alfred University, I was able to moldmyself from a student into a skilled counselor, learning skills from professors as well asprofessional school counselors. I have become highly skilled at developing unique andhelpful programs that promote personal and academic success. While I have created andimplemented practical programs that are being used in schools today, my greatest skill isempathic listening. I have a warm, person-centered approach that is an extension of mypersonality. This skill allows me to connect with students in a way that is boththerapeutic and educational.I am excited to begin my career as a school counselor and know that I have the ability tothrive in the high school setting. I would like to request an interview with you so that Imight be able to give you a better understanding of how my skills will benefit yourschool, its faculty and its students. Thank you very much for your time.Sincerely,Joseph Benedetto, M.S.
