    5. Unattended Installation?
      • Windows asks us a series of questions for a default installation
      • Can be very repetitive
      • What if we supply the answers in advance?
    6. Some Basics

      • Configuration Passes:
      windowsPE: Setup environment
      offlineServicing: Apply updates
      specialize: System specifics

    7. WIM
      • Windows Imaging (WIM) File Format
      • A file based image
      • Single instance storage
      • Contain 1 or more image per WIM file
      • Examples:
      • sourcesoot.wim
      • sourcesinstall.wim
    8. WSIM
      • We used to have Setup Manager:
      • Windows NT
      • Windows 2000
      • Windows XP/Server 2003
      • It was quite limited
      • Now we have WSIM, part of WAIK
      • Windows System Image Manager
      • Windows Automated Installation Kit
      • Windows Vista/Windows Server 2008
      • Windows 7/Windows Server 2008 R2
    9. Getting WAIK
      • It’s FREE!
      • And is the starting point to several MS OS deployment solutions
      • Frequently updated so search for it
      • It’s a big download 1.6GB+ now
      • X64 edition: can only manage x64 builds
      • X86 edition: can manage both x86 and x64
    10. Enough Talk …
      Demo …
    11. What Next?
      • DISM: Customise the images
      • WDS: Windows Deployment Services
      • Part of Windows Server
      • Capture and deploy images using network boot
      • MDT: Microsoft Deployment Toolkit
