  • EZID is a tool to provide these persistent identifiers.a kind of 1-stop shop . We’re starting with DOIs and ARKs , and we’ll add others over time.EZIDautomates identifier creation, registration + resolution as well as metadata entry + maintenance. Over time, we’ll add object deposit as an option as well, by hooking up with UC3’s microservices.EZID is available to the entire UC community. EZID is available via a web interface (shown here) and also a machine-to-machine interface, or API. ANDIt is discipline agnostic.
  • So here is the difference that EZID makes. Here is an example of a data set deposited with our first customer, Dryad.Dryad is an international repository of data underlying peer-reviewed articles in the basic and applied biosciences.
  • So, EZID CAN BE A KEY TOOLD FOR RESEARCH AND RESEARCHERS. FOCUS ON CORE FUNCTIONS!!Users: Individual researchers, Research groups, Data centers, archives, repositories, Distributed projects, consortiaAt many points in the research life cycle, the ability to easily create and manage unique, persistent identifiers can be advantageous.
  • A quick reminder that you can get lots of information about EZID from the EZID website. Here’s the URL. If you think of things you’d like to see there, please let me know.

  • Let’s say you do data-intensive research and writing. You want to refer to the dataset right now even though you haven't yet found a permanent "home" for the data. Register the dataset now with EZID, and you get a clickable reference you can use in your paper. When your papers are published and you move your data, you can update the metadata, and the clickable reference will still work. You are part of a research team, working with a regional humanities research center where a data federation is hosted. Right now, your database is stored on your departmental web server, but the server is getting old, soon to be replaced. You can use the EZID services to register an identifier now +circulate that clickable address to your colleagues + the entire data federation. When your department completes its transition, you use EZID again to update the location details so that references to your database continues to work perfectly. You are a molecular biology researcher/educator who has published extensively. You use the EZID services to allocate identifiers to your work, the datasets that accompany +inform your published articles. You are planning an exit strategy + go into research FTin private industry. You plan to move your datasets with you. You use the EZID services again to update the location details, and there is no interruption of access to your data via the original identifiers. You have received a research grant from the National Science Foundation. As part of your grant requirements, you must submit a formal data management plan. A key component of the plan is naming and organizing your files, and EZID services can help you. Register your files with EZID from the beginning. As your work progresses, if you need to move your files, as long as you update the metadata, the clickable references will continue to work.
