Slide 3: History • Mekong Malaria Documentation Center (MMDC) • WHO initiative for Roll Back Malaria (RBM) in Mekong countries included in the Workplan of EC Malaria Control Project • Established in 2001 and made available in 2002 in Hanoi, Vietnam

Slide 4: MMDC • Aim: To strengthen regional and inter-country knowledge sharing and learning for improved control of malaria and vector-borne diseases in the Asia Pacific Region. • Headed by Dr. Carlo Urbani

Slide 5: Healthlink Worldwide Assessment • Malaria Consortium consultancy checking the SWOC analysis of MMDC • Survey and Interviews by David Curtis • February 2004 • Commitment became an issue (staffing, finance, language issues, etc.)

Slide 6: ACTMalaria Transfer • Revitalized and chosen ACTMalaria to host the project in 2005 • New website was developed • Information Needs assessment was conducted during the Drug Implementation Review in Wuxi, China • Continued collection development

Slide 7: AIRC at Present • ACTMalaria Information Resource Center ( http://resource.actmalaria.net) • The information sharing and communication exchange arm of ACTMalaria • Has one full-time Information Resource Officer, one IT assistant and one off-site Web Developer gathering materials from 10 member countries

Slide 9: Mission • To provide free malaria resources to member countries, partners and stakeholders of malaria in Asia, facilitating dissemination of knowledge and reliable information with focus on drug related studies and research

Slide 10: Aims (1) Facilitate a venue where countries affected by malaria and other mosquito-borne diseases can share information; (2) Make information accessible to users; (3) Pool resources from member countries to strengthen information exchange.

Slide 11: Objectives • To further strengthen information sharing among ACTMalaria member countries and partners; • To advance the capabilities of the ACTMalaria Key Contacts for each country or region; • To focus on gathering anti-malarial drug related studies and research; • To acquaint Ministry Health Librarians to participate in the growing need of the Resource Center; • To assess the usability of the AIRC not only in the region but also in the other existing networks.

Full cooperation, coordination and support from partner agencies, key contacts, libraries and librarians will make AIRC effective and useful as a databank of online malaria information in Mekong and Asia Pacific.
